Bought two of these to connect modern SSD drives to my old Original XBOX and a Apple PowerMac G4. I was struggling with some of the other cheaper ‘no name’ IDE/SATA adapters that are also on Amazon. They all either failed after a while, didn’t boot at all or connections were slow. These from Startech are fast, reliable and noticeably higher quality. The only flaw is the open pins that many other reviews already mentioned. Also you wanna add some protection to the back side of the adapter (tape/rubber etc) so that the solder joins don’t bump against other metal components.

In short, it works. Unlike a similar product from Aliexpress, this adapter allowed me to set the hard drive in DMA mode in Windows 98 and get average read speed of 22 MiB/s (in Windows XP both adapters worked in DMA mode, though). Only because of this I would recommend this product.However, from a branded product I would expect the following:1) IDE connector with a plastic edge instead of bare pins; 2) a jumper for the ACD pins. Out of the box it is not possible to set the device in, say, slave CD-ROM mode; 3) the item should be packaged into an antistatic bag instead of a regular polyethylene bubble envelope.

Deze werkt prima, alleen blijft er in ms-dos een vertraging waardoor het geen ms-dos hardeschijf vervanger is.In sommige gevallen loopt het systeem tijdens een kopieerproces binnen ms-dos vast.Het lijkt alsof er een buffer vol loopt waardoor de computer binnen ms-dos vastloopt.Een backup draaien via Norton Ghost binnen Dos werkt echter perfect.zonder vastlopers enWindows98 en xp werken er ook prima mee. Zet dan wel de dma modus aan via apparaatbeheer om vertraging te voorkomen. Mijn hardeschijf werd meteen herkend door de bios.De bovengenoemde problemen deden zich zowel voor met een sata-ssd als een sata harddisk .Moederbord: Abit kt7a (athlon xp)met de laatste nieuwe bios.De pinnen van de aansluiting zijn opzich stevig en ook het printplaatje zelf voelt zeer degelijk aan.Echter moet je de ide kabel voorzichtig en in 1 keer recht op de pinnen duwen om te voorkomen dat de pinnen zullen buigen.De kwaliteit is gewoon goed en de master en slave jumper doet goed zijn werk.Een aandachtspunt:Zet je de pc uit, doe dit dan nooit via de schakelaar van de voeding.In dat geval ontstaat er een blokkade in de Startech controller.In dat geval word de hardeschijf niet meer gezien en moet de hardeschijf eenmalig worden afgekoppeld waarna hij het weer normaal zal doen. Zet de pc dus altijd met de powerbutton uit of gewoon via Windows.

Muchos de nosotros tenemos aún computadoras u otros equipos periféricos (como gabinetes, por ejemplo) que aún tienen puertos internos IDE (PATA). Hoy por hoy ya no se venden dispositivos con tales interfaces. La mayoría son SATA (sobre todo SATA II). Esta tarjeta es LA SOLUCIÓN para ese problema y poder seguir dándole vida a los "viejos" equipos aún útiles. Como es usual en las partes y equipos de StarTech, esta tarjeta adaptadora está bien diseñada (nada de rebabas, soldaduras de mala calidad, etc.), en un diseño compacto muy ad-hoc para la interconexión de un dispositivo SATA a una entrada IDE. Los cables proporcionados permiten anticipar todas las alternativas con las que se puede uno encontrar, así que nada de andar luego buscando adicionalmente el cable que hace falta. Al menos a mí me funcionó sin problemas en un gabinete para dispositivo óptico (lector de discos ópticos) conectado a una iMac, sin necesidad de drive alguno. El "viejo" gabinete sólo tenía interfaz IDE y el nuevo quemador de BD's (Pioneer, por si les interesa saberlo) es SATA. Sólo fue cuestión de conectar y ya. La tarjeta es capaz de mantener la tasa de transferencia de datos que se requiere para la reproducción contínua de un Blu-ray comercial, la cual usualmente es bastante alta (mayor a los 10 Mbps). Así que, por lo que a mí respecta, la tarjeta merece las cinco estrellas.

This product is fantastic. Much better than the cheap options available on facebook. Upon receipt I was blown away by the weight of the product compared to the cheap one I was sending back. Typical Startech quality on full display here.The Good:- Works seamlessly in an original xbox to allow for the use of massive SATA drives (I used it to max out the 2TB limitation of the hardware)- Made with good materials- Includes a molex passthrough to chain the adapter between a source and another drive- Includes jumpers to allow master/slave/cable select- The power adapter attaches parallel to the board, freeing up space in otherwise craped situationsThe Bad:- Both sides of the board is left entirely exposed, inviting shorts. Would highly recommend taping off the back of the board, regardless of use- The power cable uses the mini-molex plug used by legacy floppy drives, meaning you need to use the included cable to power the adapter. Not a deal breaker, but extra, unnecessary, wires always suckThe Ugly:- As opposed to a standard plastic ATA socket, this adapter uses a pin header. Your IDE ribbon will fit fine, but it seems to attach muss less sturdyThis device is 300% of the price of competing cheap options, but it is largely worth it to have a one-and-done solution. If you're looking to upgrade your original xbox hard drive in 2021, you really can't go wrong with this.

Najważniejsze, że ze starym kontrolerem IDE nowy napęd DVD działa, co prawda jeden - tak jakby przejściówka zapisywała sobie go (ten pierwszy napęd podpięty do niej) w pamięci i już żadnego innego nie chciała rozpoznać (jakaś metoda na jej reset?).

Best choice for OGXbox , No need to reflow joints or plug and pray like some green elcheapo adaptors.
