Works amazingly well. Compared with professional quality refractometer; was within 0.1 Brix every time, so I'm just using this guy now. Fast easy and clean, and no worry about bubbles throwing off the reading with hand held unit.

I compared reading with the classic manual refractometers. It is important to use a minimal amount of liquid just to cover the glass window, ~0.5 ml.

I bought it to measure the sugar level in my ice cream mix, since I usually used the "egg test" but sometimes I don't have eggs at home and I wanted to have another way to measure. But the measurements are too inconsistent. For example, I measure the level before adding sugar to the mix and it reads 17%, I do a second test and it reads 12%, the third time it reads 15% and three different readings and I haven't added any sugar! I understand that there may be a margin of error, but it's definitely not what I expected. After adding the sugar I test it and the first time it reads 22%, I repeat the test and it reads 26%, I repeat it again and it reads 21%. Now I understand why it's the cheapest one and why it's not precise. I decided not to return it, because the use I'm going to give it, which is occasional, doesn't merit buying a better quality one.
