Enstrom strikes the right balance with this book. The material is challenging enough to keep young musicians engaged, without leaving them too frustrated. My 9-year-old (who has played violin since she was 4) enjoyed the material and introduced her music teacher to this book, which we are now using as a supplement to her other workbooks. We highly recommended this book.

I am a beginner on the violin but play guitar and mandolin. This book has large, clear, easy to read print - much better quality print than some of the guitar books I have bought.Each tune is represented as an easy and intermediate version - really good to help with progression.Each tune is shown as violin tab and standard notation - as a guitar player I am used to reading tab but I want to relearn my standard notation so I am very pleased this book shows both.There is information on the key signature and scale for each tune - good for theory learning. Similarly, tips on how each piece should be played are included.The most useful aspect, for me as a beginner without lessons, is the inclusion of bow direction above each note.Download of audio files was quick and easy.Overall I am impressed with the content of this book and it was a fair price. The only thing I would like to change is the book's spine. I would be happy to pay more for a spiral bound book as it would sit better on a music stand but this is a very minor quibble.
