Alles super - 5 Sterne

So far I have love this kit! It provides a good introduction to the world of high voltage.Pros:The somewhat vague instructions instructions combined with the simplicity of the kit actually provideds a good balance between being easy to assemble whilst still needing a bit of intuition and basic knowledge of electronics. This also gives a decent feeling of gratification when you get it working. The arcs are sufficient for an introduction to high voltage and how high voltage high frequency arcs behave. A decent show whilst saying well within the non lethal range of high voltage. I have managed to get around 10kv @ 5v input.Including two kits in one is fantastic for people new to this stuff. I have soldered before but I haven't really soldered on a pcb. Including two kits allowed me to practice on one and perfect the other. (My advice (tbh I think this is what all EE's would say) is put the small things like resistors and diodes in first, bend the legs on the other side and move onto bigger components and solder everything in one go.)Cons:The transistor and the heat sink is a bit small. They quickly heat up and can quickly die. Could probably replace it with a tip 120 or 122 and a bigger heat sink. The coated wires of the transformer are a bit annoying. You have to burn the coating off and scrape the crust off with a kife. You have to put some epoxy on the secondary windings to prevent internal arcing.Over all it is an awesome kit that I enjoyed assembling. It is a good way to get into high voltage without risking killing yourself. One of my first introduction to high voltage was an MOT which can kill you instantly. Don't make that mistake and get this as your first high voltage project.
