Well….for those who have disappeared down the snake oiled rabbit hole of turntable mat upgrades…I am with you.😂I have tried cork,cork/rubber mix,acrylic ,carbon fibre,stock felt and,leather,unicorn hide of course…😂😂The interweb is peppered with experiences and suggestions regarding the variations of platter mat material and most are seasoned with science to confirm or confound.The influence of personal expectations and placebo effect cannot be excluded from the search for the desired sound benefits,especially in the higher price bracket,the latter not applicable to this silicone mat.It is a decent weight and has the option of a smooth surface or a decreasing set of raised circles,which reduce the direct contact with the mat,if that is your preference.My entirely subjective view is that ,throughout my ‘need to get a life’ quest to find the one for me,I have reached a conclusion.All the mats were subjected to a comparison between the others using the same track and the same settings but this silicone mat spoke for itself…..I played my test track from Trojan records Greatest Hits vol .2 and didn’t bother taking the album off.Others gave a similar experience of being more balanced and engaging…Scott 4,Average White Band first album,Ziggy Stardust and Steel Pulse ,amongst others.I hope this may assist you in some small way….if you are a fellow obsessive in such mat matters.😂
