As an professional artist, I get through quite a lot of cotton wool and cotton buds for blending pencil, charcoal and pastels. These sponge blenders are a good alternative and are a bit more adaptable for various other uses. The set comes in a box. Rather amusingly, the words "This is blending tool" are emblazoned on the back. Inside the box are four plastic tools that look very much like palette knives (you could use them as such if you wish) and two packets of sponge heads that fit on them. Two of the palette knives have pointed, triangular ends, and two have more rounded ends. There are sponge tips for both (20 of each), which slide on and off pretty easily. They're made of a dense, elastic sponge, very much like make-up blending sponges. As you get four of the tools, you can have four blenders on the go at once. That's great if you're doing pastel work as you won't muddy colours with a dirty blender. The sponges blend quite nicely. As they have a bit of elasticity, it's a bit more like using your finger to blend rather than a soft blender like a cotton bud or a paper stump/tortillon.I haven't yet tried, but I suspect you could wash these, as they're made of sponge. If you can, then it would extend their lifespan significantly. You could also use them wet to blend things like watercolour pencils, or to smooth out clays/ceramics.If you do any sort of art, these are quite nice to add to your kit. In my opinion, they are a little bit overpriced for what they are (£8.52 at the time of review), but they are very useful.
