The purpose of these inserts is to use a screw of smaller diameter in a threaded hole. For example, one insert makes it possible to use a 3MA screw into a 5MA threaded hole. The kit description says the range of screw sizes in this kit is M3 to M12.My intended application is using M4 screws in M6 threaded holes, so this is just what I need, right?Wrong. For some unfathomable reason, the kit contains no M4 to M6 inserts, only MA4 to MA6.5. The MA6.5 sleeves are just a tiny bit too thick to fit in my MA6 screw holes. In my 50 years of work, in Europe I never came across MA6.5 screws. You cannot buy them on Amazon, for example. You cannot find an MA6.5 tap, either, that in theory I could use to enlarge the MA6 screw holes in my equipment.In theory you could use one of these sleeves to cut to size a threaded hole that is slightly too small. In practice it does not work in my case, because the stainless steel of my threaded holes is much harder than the apparently rather soft stainless steel of the threaded inserts.This set is relatively cheap, and I plan to just keep it in a drawer, where eventually it might become useful in the future (as long as I will need another size than MA6).
