The primary instructions are in Korean with a second "Ikea" style set with minimalist English notations. The required tools to do a a good job are NOT in the instructions. If you are an experienced model builder who has done some reading about clockworks, it's easy. If not, this is a terrible first project. Build something like the Revell 3' Cutty Sark full rigging (not full sail) model first. If you can do that, then you can do this. The "8+" rating on the box is misleading for most current generation Americans, although I suspect that it is spot on for a kid that has been building models and doing a good job for a couple of years. You do have to tie four tiny knots with tweezers (three of the two half hitch variety and one figure 8).OK, not intimidated? - you will need three tools: a scalpel, a pair of tweezers, and a small silversmithing type of hammer. You will also want to have handy a small block of wood about 1"x2"x 4" to use as an anvil, and a hardwood dowel (oak is fine) about 5/8" in diameter and about 4" long. The dowel is for poking through the gears to tighten the press fits - this will be obvious when you get to those steps.The model is deceptively simple, but the instructions are also deceptively accurate. Unlike what another reviewer said, every last detail is spot on. But go slow!!!! The little inset drawings are easy to miss - especially the one where you install the ratchet pawl.What you end up with in an amazing early clock escapement demonstrator. It is NOT a working clock in the sense that it will run for hours. It runs for a few minutes, and that's it. It is also not exactly the da Vinci escapement. The gearing seems to be close to that, which is a modification of the verge or foliot escapement, but uses an ingenious double wheel system that "walks" under the control of a truly unique three peg wheel instead of a single crown wheel controlled by two pallets. Da Vinci's design replaced the foliot weights with swinging weights on strings, but other than that it seems to be close. I see hints of an early Roman gearworks in this design, but it could be something that came out of the Islamic world. Records of how early mechanical things worked in detail are almost nonexistent.It's a real delight to have as a first clockworks exploration project. For now, I'm keeping mine right on my workbench and winding up quite often. It's quite durable, and runs quite smoothly after a few dozen break-in cycles. No lubrication seems to be required.

A great model kit, parts go together very nicely indeed, a pleasure to build. Instructions not in English, but the drawings are more than clear enough to get the job done.It does not function as a clock (i.e. does not run to time). It does however provide an excellent demo of Richard of Wallingford's strob escapement.

　韓国のアカデミーから出ているけれど、金型は1962年創設のイタリアのプラモデルメーカーの老舗イタレリのもの。ずいぶん昔から出ているが、アカデミーの良質の樹脂で、仕上がりも良好。　けど、ダヴィンチの脱進機は、本来は糸絡みの一方回転。これは、振り子式で、千鳥に歯車を動かす。また、錘りも、本来は左から右へ糸が繋がっていて、その摩擦で動力車にテンションをかけるのだけど、摩擦がたりないので、動力車に巻き取り式になり、右側はただのかざりで、どこにも繋がっていないことに。　なんにしても、すごいのは、きちんと動くこと。下の目盛は１８秒で一回転。上は４倍と６０倍が選べる。また、足は４本だと、左側に錘りの落ちる余地がない。だから、この４本に換えて、後ろだけのものにすることもできる。これだと、上と足のところの二つで壁掛けにできる。フルに巻くと、およそ１０分計として使える。この調整をするのも、楽しみのうち。
