Bought this for my Denon AVR-X3700H. Previously to this I had been using the included microphone with the $20 mobile app (which is a nice step up from the Audyssey built into the AVR). But I have been wanting to take my 7.2.4 Atmos setup to the next level. Purchased the Audyssey MultEQ-X for my windows laptop and downloaded the mic calibration file for my specific mic, and I was off to the races! I'm really impressed with the results of the initial calibration and I'm looking forward to digging deeper into all the features that MultEQ-X software has to offer.

$200 per processor/receiver seems like a lot for the Audyssey MultEQ software but the results are worth it. I've used the built in system with the provided mic. I've upgraded to the $20 mobile app and used that. I finally upgraded to the $200 PC software. The app is definitely worth it and the least anyone should do. But the PC software makes an astonishing difference and gives you complete control over all the things you didn't like about the built-in system and the mobile app. If you spend thousands to upgrade your speakers, your receiver, your pre-amp and power amp, don't cheap out here at this final step. Get the calibrated mic and the PC software. You'll be glad you did. It's unfortunate they don't have a Mac version of the software but do what you have to do and run it on Windows with this mic.Maybe I shouldn't assume everyone knows the calibration is only useful with the Audyssey PC software. The mobile app has no place to input the serial number and get the calibration file. Only the PC software makes use of the calibration. Also the PC software corrects a bug in their distance calculation algorithm and provides distances that are about 7/8 of the distance indicated by the mobile app and built in system. This may be part of the reason it sounds so much better. The timing is finally calculated correctly for all your speakers which enhances imaging or the illusion of sounds coming in perfect clarity from specific locations in the room.

I've just used this microphone for the first time with the Audyssey Multieq-X programme on my laptop. The difference between this new calibration and the previous one (using the mic supplied with my receiver) is clearly superior, my speakers have never sounded this good before. My set-up is a Marantz SR8015 with various brands of speakers in a 7.1.4 configuration.
