I went the long way before ending up here: I first started with Bialetti mokka pots (I have 4 now), then French press (collected 3 in the meantime), then an espresso machine (on my 2nd now) set-up with a separate grinder (now on my 3rd), then Greek coffee pots (2 of them in the cupboard) before I finally got what I had tried resisting so long thinking that it was mainly hype: the Aeropress! I'm not into coffee that has gone through a paper filter first so I ordered stainless steel mesh filters to go with it. I now make most of my coffee this way.Update December 2024I changed my mind on paper filters in the meantime. For a lighter tasting coffee (of a strength similar to filter coffee) I follow YouTuber James Hoffmann's recipe of 11 grams of coffee (medium fine grind similar to the grind for a moka pot) for 200 grams/ml of water. For a much stronger cup of coffee I follow YouTuber "About Coffee"'s recipe for 'how to make an espresso using an Aeropress' which uses 16 grams of coffee (also of a medium fine grind similar to that for moka pots) for 60 grams/ml of water. This recipe calls for using two paper filters at the same time. I switched out one of the paper filters for a stainless steel mesh filter. I don't taste any difference in flavour between full paper or half paper/half mesh but it saves a bit on having to buy new filter papers sooner.

This device (with the right technique) is able to produce amazing coffee in smaller batches. It is easy to clean and it is also quite portable. I would recommend watching James Hofmann for tips on using this device. If you're mostly brewing a single cup for yourself then this device will definitely be worth it.

Box arrived very beat up, and there's rattling inside. I hope it's OK. It's a gift so I don't want to open it.

Just get a normal coffee filter to pour water over. Same coffee, and so much less mess and hassle. I do not recommend tho espresso maker.

I had been leaning towards buying a new coffee maker for a while. My friends have semi-automatic espresso machines and maybe I'm in my mid-life crises, but I also want to improve my coffee drinking experience, but was very hesitant about the price. The hassle of such a machine and the fact that you need a lot to make good coffee. Investigating, I came across the AeroPress. Also because I like filter coffee more. The quality leap is huge. Buy a good (hand) grinder too!

Was skeptical with all the hyper for years around the 'Aeropress' and how much of a difference this would really make to me coffee routine. During the pandemic, i had more time to brew coffee at home so i ordered one to try, the unit is surprisingly more compact than what I had anticipated - even from the pictures provided and description. It doesn't take up much space in the cupboard and if you stack the plunger in the main cylinder it's even smaller. I think there is an opportunity for an accessory for the unit to be hung in a small stand where the plunger tip (the all important rubber) is not touching the ground and can air dry BUT you can then use the empty space of the plunger to hold the scoop and paddle - reducing their space as well. Coffee/ food for thought.Using the unit is super straight forward, use filter grade coffee - follow the guidelines around setting up the unit; which are put filter paper in and lock the nozzle in place. I would suggest re-washing the filter paper before hand as it can have a bit of a taste which will impact your coffee. Fill with one scope of ground coffee and you're ready to go - I use 80 degrees centigrade water as I find 90 and 100 give it a slight bitter edge. Pour to the level you want ( start with 1, I go to 2 for a long black), mix with the paddle for 10-15 seconds and start gently pressing. Before you know it; you're done.Cleaning wise, once you done pressing and extracting every last drop (don't press too hard) you can simply take the end filter off and easily eject the used coffee grounds into the bin. A simple wipe or rinse of the end and that's all the detailed cleaning you need to do!I am now experimenting with different roasts and blends to find the best setup. Highly recommend this unit and it's now even replaced my Nespresso for making a strong and delicious cup of coffee in the morning.

I am a long term coffee drinker and a very discerning one at that! My preference is for Espresso and Cafe Creme (espresso + little milk). I have tried various coffee makers from Home Espresso Machines to stove-top Mocha Pots. Recently I came across Aeropress, watched some YouTube videos and decided to get it. The quality of the plastic material used is solid. I have used it for a few days and I must say I am mighty pleased with the result. It REALLY extracts the flavour of the coffee - enough to retain the flavour even after adding a little milk to make Cafe Creme. I use 18-20 gms of Lavazza espresso coffee powder, soak it in piping hot water for 2 minutes in the Aeropress and push it down in one quick plunge. As shown in the photo, there is even a hint of froth - it is not really crema but close. Most importantly, the flavour extraction is impressive. It is almost (90% of) the REAL thing!Cautionary note: changing the proportions (e.g. less coffee, more water, etc.) does not yield the same result. Those are good for making Americano but lack the zest of espresso.
