Great tool. High quality. Does what is says it will do. Very easy to set up and use. Could be improved if it included instructions and a pouch or box to put all the parts in for storage but at this price that isn't a criticism.

Now that my husband has retired, I thought he might be interested in making me some cupboards with doors at some point in the future. I saw this hinge jig and thought it would come in very useful for being able to fix hinges onto doors, so that they look as professionally finished as any cabinetry you buy in a flat pack kit.This hinge jig was not supplied with any instructions, but referencing the photos on the product description listing, my husband found it fairly simple to use when he practised on a piece of scrap.Firstly, the ‘adjustable dial’ in the product description is actually a metal bar located on the underneath of the jig. This sets the distance from the edge of the board that the hole will be drilled into. It is secured in place with two cross head screws, and there are markings on the jig to show the distances (3mm to 7mm). This should now be adjusted to suit how far from the board edge you want the hole to be drilled.Next, place the jig firmly against the edge of the board, and try to close the two clamp levers. The clamp grips on the underneath of the jig should be adjusted and locked into place, using the two spanners provided, to ensure that the levers close and lock firmly, securing the jig in place.The jig can now be removed, the shaft of the 35mm hole opener inserted (from the underneath) through the bearings on the top of the jig, and the jig clamped onto the board in the position that you want the hole to be drilled. The top bearing, supplied in the plastic bag, can now be inserted into the top of the jig, so that it rests above the bearings that are retained within the jig. There is a collet, called a deep positioning ring in the product details, that is also supplied. This can be tightened onto the shaft of the hole opener, using the Allen key provided, at the depth that you want the hole to be drilled. This prevents drilling too deep.Lastly, attach your electric drill to the shaft of the hole opener, and slowly begin to drill until you reach the depth required, or that set by the deep positioning ring. The electric drill can now be removed. While the jig is still clamped in place, the two small holes for the hinge fixing screws can be drilled with the supplied 2mm drill bit, using the small holes on either side of the jig. However, these are set at 48mm apart, so check the hinge fixing distance before drilling these.The jig can now be removed by releasing the clamp levers, and the hinge hole should be at the position and depth that you set. I found this jig well-made and easy to use. It’s almost like having a portable bench drill, but taking the drill to the work instead of taking the work to the drill. My husband was very impressed with this tool, and thought it was excellent value for money, so I would definitely recommend this product. Now I just have to patiently wait for my cupboards to materialise.
