After I received the violin, I felt that the bow was poor quality. Then, a few days later, the bow suddenly completely broke. In the years I have played violin, I have never seen this before. When I only wanted to get the bow replaced (of course I need the violin right now for practice) but that was not possible without having it replaced altogether. A shame.

I would pay this price just for the case of the violin. The fact it comes with the violin and violin bow is amazing. My local violin store would have sold me a beginners violin for £500 without the case and without the violin bow or rosin. The rosin and tuner that comes with this kit are useless. For tuning I used an app called SoundCorset and it is for free. I bought a high quality dark rosin for £8-£9 and it will last me ages! YouTube helped me decide what rosin to buy for the violin bow. Without the rosin you won’t get any decent sound.I also love the colour and design of this violin and it sounds beautiful even when I use the original bow, which I have grown to love! :)The only thing I would say is that it is very difficult to set up and tune the violin. Every time I tune a different string, the other strings get out of tune. It is important to tune the two middle strings first before you tune the two outer strings or you risk displacing and perhaps snapping the violin bridge! I got help from several hours of watching different YouTube videos, which taught me many vital tricks on how to tune the strings as well as many other things. At first I kept ruining the strings and I bought 4 full sets of extra violin strings at about £25 for each full set. I bought good quality strings even though I was a beginner because once you get it set up you will enjoy playing a lot more with strings that make warmer sounds. This is still much cheaper than having to pay for a violin teacher that costs £40 per hour maybe even more and they may not teach you enough! Personally I had a lot of fun figuring things out myself. It taught me a lot of patience, but the joy I got from playing a few short pieces of music far exceeds the frustration that comes with setting up the violin, which can be much much much harder than actually trying to play the violin. You will need to set up the bridge yourself and you will need to tune the violin yourself. I only managed with the help of YouTube videos and lots of trials and errors and lots of broken strings. In my case the bridge of the violin snapped as I didn’t tune the two middle strings first, before the two outer strings. I kept the original broken bridge to use as a template. I then bought some random violin bridges (a pack of 10) from Amazon, and using the original template I drew a line and cut out the excess wood from the new bridges using a jewellery saw and smoothed it out with some sand paper. I used a clamp or a vice to hold the bridge in place so that I can cut out the same shape and height of the original bridge. I bought all this from Amazon and it is still cheaper than paying for a music teacher for two lessons a week! The problem with the already supplied violin bridge is that the wood is very thin and so it can snap easily. The random bridges I bought from Amazon have much thicker wood and so they are less likely to break. However, these random violin bridges from Amazon were too high, and so they needed to be cut down. Each violin has its own uniquely shaped bridge and so it is important to keep the original bridge (even if it is broken) to use as a template so it can be recreated. You will need to make the new bridges the same height and shape as the original template. Please note the feet and lower half of the violin bridge are standard… it is only the height and the shape of the upper curve that is different for each violin bridge. It took me over a month to set up and tune the violin, but once I overcome that learning curve I was able to set up the bridge, recreate new bridges, tune and even change the violin strings myself.I decided to avoid paying for lessons at all costs and I am using a series of books called Suzuki Violin international version. However, my basic knowledge of music has come in very handy. I don’t think I would have been able to use these books without having this knowledge first, but as they say everyone is different. If you can get through the first three violin books of the Suzuki series then you have the potential of becoming a really good professional violin player. I am currently half way through the first book which is level 1.On YouTube I recommend watching several beginner tutorials done by professional violin players. One really good example is: Kennedy Violins on YouTube… they have given me so much advice, especially when tuning the violin.Thank you! :)
