I'm reviewing the Ajazz AK992 no-backlight white-blue gaming keyboard with built-in 1400 mAh battery. (There's a backlit variation of the AK992 available in a different colour scheme, with a built-in 4000 mAh battery - the bigger battery capacity is necessary for that version because backlighting is a rapid energy drain). The AK992 keyboard is well laid out. I had concerns that the manufacturer's description of the product as a "mini" keyboard might mean the keys would be too close together for my liking, resulting in a less-than-optimal typing experience. The key spread is just right, though. As far as I can tell, the "mini" description is based on the AK992 having 99 keys (as opposed to the 104 that many gaming keyboards have). What happened to the other 5 keys? On the AK992 those keys have been replaced by a single multifunction knob. The knob is a space-efficient idea. It has many uses. What I find it most useful for is adjusting the volume of music / games - much easier than using up/down keys for that job, or manually adjusting volume from within a game or media player. The typing experience on the AK992 is pleasant. Mechanical keys are always preferable for typing with, and the AK992's are just right - perfectly spaced out, with a scalloped surface and the optimal amount of "give". The pressure needed to type can be adjusted, as can many other features of this highly customisable keyboard. The amount of sound generated by typing can also be altered to the user's liking. This will be useful only to a small number of people - most folk won't want to adjust it. Straight out of the box, the AK992 is perfect for typing on - in terms of both pressure needed and sound generated. Thanks to three inner layers of silicone padding for sound absorption, typing results in a beautifully satisfying quiet sound that the manufacturer describes as "ASMR typing". That's a good description of it. But if you wish to make your typing sound even quieter - or louder - you can do so with this customisable keyboard. From a full charge, this no-backlight keyboard's battery lasts a long time (which can't be said about backlit versions). The customisable nature of the gasket-mounted hotswappable AK992 isn't its only versatile feature. Users can choose from three connection options: Type-C wired, Bluetooth 5.0, or 2.4GHz wireless. This allows users to easily switch between different devices, making this a truly versatile keyboard. The included custom coiled cable is fantastic quality (which is what I'd expect, considering the lofty cost of the product). Its current retail price of £74.99 is considerably more expensive than the same product in the US (currently $59.99 direct from the manufacturer). Why this discrepancy in price? Well, that's a question. The overinflated price in Britain is the only reason I've given this keyboard four stars rather than five. At twenty quid less it would have received an undoubted five-star rating. In terms of quality, versatility and pleasure to type on, it's a five-star product. But it gets four stars overall because of the hiked-up price.
