For our family’s Alaska trip this summer, in the Land of the Midnight Sun, we knew we would need some kind of light-blocker in order to get a decent sleep. It was really hard to tell from the photos, descriptions, and reviews, which products were actually superior, so we purchased 7 different sleep masks. After trying all of them for two weeks, we can give other buyers our comparative reviews. Listed below in rank order from our best to worst, here are the 7 masks we tried:ZGGCD• This was the first one that I tried, and it worked so great. After this one, the other masks were okay, but they were just not quite as good as this one. (except for MZOO which was very, very similar). This ZGGCD mask was priced fairly at $9.99.MZOO• Another great model. Nearly identical to the ZGGCD brand, but it has a large MZOO brand printed on the front. And it cost twice as much. (I paid $19.99)LKY• These masks came as a 3-pack for $9.99. They were an economical option that worked surprisingly well, and were not uncomfortable. These were unexpectedly much smaller than the other masks, but they really did work fine. The band seemed tight, but it was adjustable – I guess I just never adjusted it. These masks kept the light out, and the eye wells were deep enough. Two of my college kids liked them well enough that they borrowed these for another trip they are taking next month.Alaska Bear• I figured this mask was just made for the Midnight Sun! Quite a bit smaller than the extra plush masks. Not very thick either, but again to my surprise, the small masks worked just as well as the luxury models. The price for this one was on the upper end ($14.99).Zenssia• The satin looked and felt luxurious, and at the $19.99 price, it tied with MZOO for being the most expensive mask we tried. The velcro band stays secure, and did not get caught in my hair. The cloth over the ears actually felt nice. But, I can’t say this mask was nice to sleep in. If you didn’t keep the band tight, the mask sort of shifts or spins over my face as I move. And if I pulled the band tight, it seemed to put all the pressure right across my eyes. So this mask was a no-go.LitBear• At $14.39, this was on the pricier end. There is a nose bridge piece that helps block any sneaks of light, but I preferred the superior comfort of the masks that didn’t have that extra fabric bridge, over having every last peep of light obliterated. I can say the nose bridge had a nice cool feeling that I liked. But the critical problem for me was that my lashes brushed on the inside of this mask.MABAO• The mesh fabric on the outside does not speak comfort, but I realize that the outside fabric does not really rub on the skin, so it shouldn’t matter. However, the eye pockets in this one were just too shallow. I hadn’t even known that shallow eye wells could be a problem, but I am sure glad we had other masks with the deep eye wells. We bought this MABAO mask at the budget price of $5.99I might have mentioned that I am a real mover in my sleep, and sometimes these masks fell off, but to my surprise that didn’t happen often. Many in the family are side-sleepers, and none had complaints about buckles or straps pressing into their heads. After trying these 7 masks, we felt we could offer some helpful feedback to other shoppers. My best two recommendations were ZGGCD ($9.99) as the best mask of all, and LKY which was a decent and functional mask, and there were THREE masks for the same price. Then there were the three that I just could not get comfortable with: Zennsia, LitBear, and MABAO. I wouldn’t recommend these. Happy travels everyone!

The ALASKA BEAR Organic Silk Sleep Mask has become, without exaggeration, one of my most valued personal items, and it's not difficult to explain why. From the moment I slipped it on for the first time, it was obvious this wasn't just another sleep accessory—it was an experience, a ritual, a tiny luxury that fundamentally changed how I approach rest. For those seeking comfort, elegance, and true blackout performance, this silk sleep mask consistently delivers in both function and form.Let’s begin with the material: pure, natural mulberry silk. Unlike the synthetic fabrics found in many sleep masks, this silk feels like cool water against the skin. It glides smoothly over the eyes and cheeks, never tugging or sticking, and it retains this fluid softness even after repeated use. The moment it touches your face, there’s a sense of gentle indulgence, the kind you'd associate with a spa or a luxury hotel.Silk also has that subtle, organic scent—clean, soft, and almost therapeutic. It’s not fragranced, of course, but the lack of synthetic odours is itself a pleasure. There's something innately calming about the way the material interacts with the skin and senses. It’s breathable in a way that synthetics simply aren’t, and this breathability matters more than you might think, especially if you’re prone to overheating or irritation at night. The performance is where this mask truly excels. The total blackout effect is no marketing gimmick. Whether you’re dealing with early morning sun, artificial street light filtering through the curtains, or even the annoying blue glow of tech devices, this mask blocks it all out completely. The benefit? An immediate increase in melatonin production, deeper sleep, and fewer disturbances throughout the night. If you travel, nap during the day, or simply live in a brightly lit city environment, the blackout alone makes it worth every penny.Equally important is the fit. The adjustable headband, which gently wraps around your head without pinching, makes this mask perfect for all sleepers—back, side, or stomach. The buckle placement is thoughtful, staying out of contact with pressure points near the temples, and that alone is a godsend for side-sleepers like myself. It adjusts from 15.8 to 27.6 inches, making it versatile for nearly any adult. The interior padding is what truly elevates the comfort level. While some masks rely purely on fabric, the ALASKA BEAR design includes a feather-light filling that adds dimension and softness without bulk. It gives the mask structure and shape, but without pressing against the eyelids. I’ve worn this for overnight flights, and not only did I sleep, but I also arrived feeling noticeably more refreshed—no creases on my skin, no irritated eyes.Speaking of skin, let’s talk skincare. Mulberry silk is a favourite in beauty circles for good reason. It doesn’t wick away your nighttime creams or serums like cotton can, meaning those expensive products actually stay on your face. The smooth surface also means less friction, so you’re not waking up with pillow lines or contributing to fine lines around the delicate eye area. If you’ve invested in skincare, this mask complements your routine beautifully.Durability is often overlooked with luxury products, but this mask impresses on that front too. Despite regular use (and occasional hand washing with mild detergent), the mask shows no signs of wear. The stitching remains tight, the elastic holds its shape, and the silk remains glossy and soft. The company recommends handwashing, and I follow that advice religiously—partly out of respect for the material, and partly because I want this mask to last forever.Another underrated benefit is how well it performs in dry or air-conditioned environments. On flights, for instance, when your skin often feels parched and uncomfortable, this silk mask acts almost like a barrier, holding in moisture and shielding your eyes from dryness. For people who suffer from dry eyes or sinus discomfort, this can be a real game-changer.I've also noticed that since using this mask, my sleep rhythm has improved. Not just the duration, but the quality. Falling asleep feels easier; staying asleep feels more natural. There’s something about creating a sensory cocoon—blocking out light, cushioning the face in silk—that signals the brain to power down. It has helped train my body into recognising bedtime, regardless of whether I’m in a hotel, on a plane, or at home. For those sensitive to environmental allergens, the hypoallergenic properties of mulberry silk are especially welcome. There’s no irritation, no breakouts, no redness—just smooth, calming fabric that works in harmony with the skin. It’s colourfast, non-toxic, and free from harsh dyes, which means peace of mind if you have reactive skin or conditions like eczema.I’ve used other masks before—from memory foam styles to contoured blackout models—but none have felt this natural. The synthetic ones often made my face sweat or caused slight tension headaches due to their fit. The ALASKA BEAR mask, in contrast, almost disappears once you’ve put it on. It’s so lightweight that I often forget I’m wearing it, and yet the blackout is absolute.Beyond sleep, I’ve also used it during meditation sessions, long train journeys, and even short afternoon breaks. It's a signal to my brain: this is your time to pause. That kind of association is powerful. For frequent travellers, it’s the ultimate pocket-sized wellness tool—light enough to carry everywhere, but capable of turning the most uncomfortable situation into a calming retreat. This mask has also proven useful when dealing with migraines. Blocking out all light, cushioning the eyes, and staying cool to the touch—it creates an ideal environment for relief. I’ve gifted it to friends dealing with stress or insomnia, and each one has come back with the same reaction: why didn’t I get one sooner? If I had to point out a limitation, it’s that once you’ve used this, most other sleep masks feel inferior. It’s genuinely difficult to return to anything else. Fortunately, it comes in various styles and colours, so I’ve since purchased a few more—one for travel, one that lives on my nightstand, and even one as a gift for a family member who swore off eye masks until trying this one.For this price it feels like a small indulgence with outsized benefits. It’s not just a sleep mask; it’s a skincare booster, a stress reliever, a travel essential, and a nightly ritual wrapped into one.
