After extensive research and a strict criteria (high quality and large) I found this chessboard. The quality is stunning, beautiful in fact and at 21 inches it’s large. Looking at different chessboards elsewhere, this one represents excellent value for money, the pieces are weighted and the finish is exceptional. If you’re looking for a large chessboard, that’s practical and of a high quality then this is the one.

I bought this set nearly 6 years ago, so I could teach my 4 year old daughter how to play chess. Since then, she's not only learned how to play, but her little sister was born and is now learning chess to. I mention this not to brag (well, maybe a little, clever kids! haha) but to emphasize that despite this set now having been used by myself and a couple of rambunctious kids for years now, it's held up terrifically. The board and pieces are all well-made, the board can be easily folded up with the pieces inside to put it away, and the nice, big, wooden board and hand-carved pieces make a nice table-top decoration if you prefer to leave the board out on the table for long stretches of time (which we often do, because it's easier to convince the kids to play a few moves before arguing for screen time when the game is out in the open, ready for a match). The price has gone up a notable amount since my original purchase, but as long as the quality is still as good as the one I got, I'd say it's still worth it.

I did a lot of research on Amazon Prime, eBay and Internet sellers. There are many expensive (300 USD plus) sets out there of wonderful quality. This set has many attributes of the higher end sets: all real wood, hand made/carved, weighted and felted bases, hand made wood inlay board and importantly, the pieces are up to 4" tall. The pieces are wonderfully finished, smooth, varnished and have lots of detail. I could not smell any odours, uneven surfaces or glue squeeze out. The table is big (20" x 20.5 " or 51cm x 52cm). IMO this set gives you 80-90% of what a very high end set would provide at a fraction of the price.The manufacturer, Wegiel, uses great materials, employs no child labour and has a great heritage.I'm really happy with this set. This is wonderful value for money.

Bonne qualité générale, excepté le rangement intérieur en plastique léger et assez fragile qui n’est pas à la hauteur de la qualité du reste mais bon ce n’est pas le principal, en bref très bon pour le prix.
