Nothing beats the real thing. I've tried a lot of the clones and never once have I said, "gee, I can't even tell a difference?!". You always can. And the legit Arduino boards are always top notch, reliable, smaller, and built better all around.There is nothing worse when you're trying to learn something new, than having to fight through all of the absurd workarounds some clone manufacturer requires you to do before you can even use the device.Buy Arduino. Get a device that works. Actually plug and play. And be on your way faster with way less headache.

I needed a small board with a 32-bit MCU (ATSAMD21G18A - Cortex M0+) for a project. There are a lot of knock off small boards like this in various shapes and claiming compatibility with one embedded ecosystem or another. I'm not afraid to buy one of those, occasionally. But this was an important project, I needed a fast result, and Arduino MKR Zero seemed to fit the bill (when it comes to building a prototype or just for proving a concept). The board worked flawlessly from the very first moment.If you need to connect various extensions you may need breadboard, jumper wires, various connectors, etc. THIS IS NOT a good starting board for a beginner; MKR Zero has very little other than the MCU on it. If you plan to learn, go to Arduino.cc website and look for an educational kit. If a 32-bit MCU is your goal, look for Arduino Zero or Arduino Duo. Or check the Nucleo family from ST Microelectronics.Please be aware that the MKR Zero board does not include an embedded debug probe (EDBG). You need to have one and feel comfortable soldering few wires or a connector. Depending of your debug probe, you may need connector adapters or a Dupont cable (or female-to-female jumper wires).You will also need Arduino IDE and follow the proper installation procedures to get your board recognized on your computer when plugged into an USB port.Don't forget: there is a very large Arduino community out there and ready to help.
