The purchased unit was not new and had obvious use marks from a previous user.The function is not without complaint. Most of the time the internal hammer mechanism would land a solid blow, but every now and then it will skip, or only land a "half power" blow. When this happens, one must repeat the action until the internal hammer catches and produces an acceptable blow again. This almost definitely has an effect on the precision of the resulting hole, especially if one is not paying close attention.The unit itself is of solid construction, with a heavy metal housing with knurled grip. The point and shaft are acceptable and do not wobble much in the housing, and seem to be made of acceptably strong steel.

The product didn't work in the beginning, what seems to happen pretty often with this cheap automatic center punches. After doing some reasearch I was able to find out that this seems to be a common problem with this cheap centerpunches. There are many videos on youtube that show how to fix them, after re-bending the spring it worked fine. If you know how to fix it, you get much for less.
