1,0 van 5 sterren 420 is too big even for dark base pro 901
Beoordeeld in het Verenigd Koninkrijk op 19 maart 2025
I bought the 901 Dark Base Pro and discovered that it doesn't accommodate to the 420 radiator on top, only on the front. It seemed very odd that be quiet doesn't accommodate to this properly, so I'm putting this one star as a warning. If you're only getting the 360, it's probably good

    5,0 van 5 sterren 100% Threadripper Coverage Under $200
Beoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 1 april 2025
I have a 3960X with a 280W TDP on an ASUS ROG Zenith Alpha Extreme II TRX4 board and a 1200W Antec power supply. For a long time I had a pretty solid 360mm AIO from Thermaltake that had a TR4 bracket but still without a plate that would be touching the entire CPU block and every bit of every CCD. I have a large case with plenty of airflow and lots of fans so it kept my 24 core CPU pretty cool for the most part, except when under extreme load with demanding games (COD) at 165 fps or when exporting 4K video work it would flirt with 90 on the core temp and if it was a rough transcode sometimes creep into the 92/93 range where I was positive throttling was happening.
Now 5 years old and with a 4080 Super card upgrade, I decided to put new thermal paste on and check if anything beyond the esoteric and often expensive ($300+) AIOs with actual full coverage on a TR chip that is a rectangle compared to the square of an AM4/5 had surfaced. My timing was lucky as be quiet had just released this beast of a block with a 420mm radiator option for under $200. Long story short I took the plunge and ordered some Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste and did the necessary rearranging so that everything was on a proper mobo header and would be synced to the mobo RGB. My case accommodates a 420mm radiator up top and it BARELY cleared this massive E-ATX board of mine to seat properly.
If you are keeping all overclocking auto or otherwise off and just operating at your base frequency, why are you even buying this thing? You should see sub 40 idle temps all day everyday on the core. If you have your PBO settings properly configured to used the power limits of the motherboard and not set to Auto or the default 280 of the processor, you can truly see just how much of a difference this block makes.
You won't really see it in idle temps as much because if this thing is doing its job you're going to see more sustained boosts at higher frequencies so that's more the metric to use rather than idle temps in a situation where you're trying to max out the potential performance of a CPU like this for heavy multi-core workloads. I can run Cinebench R24 for the 10 minute multi-core CPU throttle tests at a sustained 335W power draw for the CPU (55W over its rated TDP) with all cores hitting 4.45 and cores 13/14 actually hitting 4.51 on a CPU with a 3.8 base and a max rated boost of 4.5 while never cracking 79 degrees Celsius on the core temp (so the higher of the two most people look at for this).
Whereas my boosts would usually hover around 4.16 with my old AIO and usually need to dip back down after a bit to bring the core temps down a bit, now they are pretty much stuck at 4.35 or higher for most system tasks.
FWIW: I initially installed it with the paste provided but wasn't happy with how I applied it and it ate away at me so I did a full clean and swap for the Kyronaut and basically got the exact same performance.
Last but not least, the RGB on the block is a very classy addition to any setup. If you have a top tier Ryzen 9950X or X3D and plan on doing content workloads as well as gaming or if you have any Threadripper at all, this thing is a no brainer. I got it for $172 and am now seeing it for $155. This is a home run from be quiet.

Typisch bequiet, tut was es soll!
