Summary: While doing tree work in heavy brush, I lost my pruning saw. So I ordered this tool lanyard for retention purposes.Considerations: There are two styles of lanyards, this style which is a bungee cord within a nylon sheath, and coiled wire ropes. When using a pruning saw, I was concerned that the longer bungee cord version would be too slack, and I would get tangled in it, so I also ordered the coiled wire rope version. The downside on the coiled wire rope version is that you could be constantly pulling against the wire rope tension. I'll need to try out both to see which one ends up working better for this specific application.Observations: This company BearTOOLS offers 50 products, and 24 are lanyard related, so I would consider them a lanyard tool retention specialty manufacturer. They offer both the bungee and coiled wire rope versions. Cost is average for a tool retention lanyard. The biggest variation is the weight of the tool that can be retained. Conclusion: At $9, rating this item 5-stars (specialty).

I've found the Bear Tools tool safety lanyard to be quite a handy accessory for anyone who frequently works at heights. It's particularly useful for securely attaching small hand tools, which helps prevent accidental drops that could cause injury or damage. The lanyard is surprisingly lightweight, yet it feels strong and durable, instilling confidence in its use.One of the features I appreciate the most is the coiled cable design. This design choice makes it easier to move around with the tool without getting tangled up, a common issue with traditional lanyards. The two differently sized clips on either end of the lanyard are well-sprung and secure, ensuring a firm attachment to both the tool and an anchor point, such as a ladder or tool belt. It's rated for tools up to 0.9 kg, making it ideal for lighter tools like screwdrivers or pliers. However, I'm always cautious not to exceed this weight limit to maintain the lanyard's integrity and safety. The bright colour of the lanyard also helps in keeping it visible, which I find adds to the overall safety aspect. While I generally find it reliable, I think it's important to consider the lanyard's weight limit and test it with different tools in various scenarios to ensure it meets specific needs. In terms of price, I feel it offers good value for its quality and the added safety it provides.Overall, the Bear Tools tool safety lanyard is a solid choice for enhancing safety and efficiency when working at elevated positions. It's a practical tool that I find quite valuable in preventing potential accidents.

This is ideal for light weight hand tools when working at height. It is designed to work with additional BearTool accessories so that you can simply clip from one to another, but given this is for light weight tools, you can just use cable ties to create the loops on your tools. The lanyard is a tough and durable plastic coil that stretches easily to allow you to extend your reach without pulling against you, but also recoils out of the way when done. The main purpose of this is to ensure you don’t drop a claw hammer or such onto a person below you. However, it isn’t just about preventing deaths or injuries. I was recently working on a light fitting after a brand-new wood floor had been laid. I was being lazy and just got on with the job. I dropped a screwdriver I was using and it landed point down, perfectly, into the new floor in the middle of the room and took a big chunk out of the laminate – so much for tough surfaces. My heart sank I had to get the floor pulled back to replace the board. I have never worked at any height since then without a lanyard, and these ones are ideal for the job. It can prevent injuries and potential insurance claims.

BearTOOLS make a range of excellent quality lanyards, and this one is perfect for smaller tools, such as pliers, cutters, spanners, screwdrivers etc. The maximum recommended weight is 0.9kg. The cable is coiled which means it is easier to work with than a longer lanyard without getting tangled. With different sized sprung carabiners on each end, there are several ways you can attach to your person, ladder or tool belt.I am on a team that installs AV equipment. Safety procedures on site require that when using step ladders, someone has to hold them. I have become very aware of the dangers of dropping tools on my colleagues, even though we all wear hard hats. (And of course, I do not want to drop a set of Knipex VDE pliers on the floor!)Whatever option you choose, I feel this is a responsible and secure way of tool handling at a height. it not only protects tools from damage, but more importantly protects your colleagues and promotes an accident free environment.

Working at heights you've always got to be wary when carrying tools - really DIY should be no exception. This allows you to clip your tool onto your person (only for lightweight tools) or the access platform/ladder etc. The idea being if you drop the tool the lanyard will break its fall. This is rated for tools up to 0.9kg so likely wouldn't be suitable for a hammer but certainly ok for my small impact driver and easily supports the weight - I'm sure it would support much more but you have to consider the dynamic loads when something is dropped. I tried pulling this really hard, well in excess of 0.9kg and feel confident it would stand 10kg plus as a static load. It is brightly coloured and the clips are firm and secure, feeling like they're made of solid quality steel. One clip is large than the other for ease of clipping onto anchor points and the other clips onto tools. The included leaflet is comprehensive and outlines working at height guidelines as well as other accessories that are available to tether tools without built in clip options.
