This Lawn Aerator Spike Tool with 8 solid spikes was super easy to set up—took just a few minutes, and I was ready to tackle my backyard. My lawn is pretty compacted, and every time it rains, it turns into a mini swamp that even frogs would admire.Used this tool once so far, and it works exactly as advertised. The spikes dig in well, and it’s surprisingly satisfying to use (bonus leg workout!). I’m hoping regular use will help reduce the soggy mess during heavy rainfall and give my lawn a chance to breathe and thrive.If you’re looking for a low-effort, high-impact tool to improve lawn drainage and overall health, this is a great option. Just don’t expect it to do the work for you—you’ll get a little dirty, but your grass will thank you.

A year after mistakenly using a broad-spectrum weed & grass killer rather than just a weed killer, it was time to fix the several dozen small bald spots in my lawn. This aerator seemed like a good tool to use to re-seed these areas. I honestly wasn't expecting much of it, but have been (mostly) pleasantly surprised.First, this comes packaged WAY better than it really needed to be, or that I was expecting. There were no less than three layers of packing on the product in the box, including some pretty decent sheets of vinyl, and everything was tie-wrapped securely to everything else, ensuring that there was no damage to the aerator and no chance of anything sharp poking out of the box.The finish on the aerator appears to be a nice, full-surface hammered grey powdercoat. It covers everything except the bolts and screws used to assemble it, and the plastic handles. Neither shipping nor a full day of use caused any damage at all. It even covers the welded-on spikes, which makes it difficult to confirm how well they are welded in place, but none of the spikes bent or were pushed even when after being run into some unexpected rocks.As others have noted, the only obvious weak spot in the build is what seem to be obviously too-small screws/bolts that hold the upper handle to the base. There's just enough slop there that no amount of tightening seems to get rid of the loose-feeling wiggle of the handle during use. Just a slight change to either the mating connection and/or the connecting bolts to make this a more solid connection would be a worthwhile update.During use I found the aerator handle was just a touch too low for someone my height. For a simple poke in / poke out with the spikes for basic aeration, this isn't much of a problem. But if you're using this to break up impacted soil or loosen it to mix in some seeds, the short length becomes tiring. I'd highly recommend either making the whole thing a bit taller, or adding one or two 4" to 6" extension tubes to make this easier to work back-and-forth for leverage.The only thing I might have done differently when getting this, is getting the 15-spike version instead of the 8-spike version. I think that would have made my specific job easier by not having to poke each area I wanted to break up and apply seed to, as many times as this one needed. But this one gets the job done.With the addition of a more solid handle connection and some way to make the entire assembly taller, this would be a five-star yard and gardening product for me.
