The "industry standard" for rainpants seems to be for stretchy thin elastic cord with minimal plastic spring cinch to hold pants up. When wet or exercising, esp for my body type, they fall down constantly and then tightening the elastic cord cinch thing is ineffective. Belt loops would be best. Some parachute cord threaded into pants instead of skimpy elastic cord would possibly be OK. My solution of suspenders seems ridiculous -- I never have worn one before - but it mostly works if you keep pants covered by rainjacket.

Bought these for photographic trips to New Zealand and Iceland, and also use them in the California Sierras. I am 6’2” and 180 pounds, 34 waist in Levi’s 541 jeans, short-waisted, and long legged. The Large/Long fit perfectly. Construction is excellent. Fully unzipped, the pants fit easily over Keene winter hiking boots. In Iceland, these protected against waterfalls, driving rain, snow, and 45+mph winds. The zips are not self sealing, but do have snap-down flaps along the full length of the zipper. These snaps unfasten easily when unzipping the pants to take them off, but stay snapped otherwise Wide enough to fit easily over boots, but not so much as to flap in the wind. Would buy again, but I cannot imagine needing to.
