I work in law enforcement and I’m on the Special Operations Response Team. We used to utilize a figure 8 with ears for rappelling, but we have recently switched to the ATC. There’s less potential for self-error with the ATC and you are lower risk of loosing/breaking a finger. This will be my teams new go to for rescue rappelling and the 8 will just be a tool in our bags. I also highly recommend the GUIDE version, due to the ability to ascend with minor configuration to the set up.

Had my previous DMM bug belay device for 10 years wanted a new deviceRead the reviews and decided to buy this o stead of a GriGri, I have made a really good choice, lovely belaying on lead climbing the device feels really well put together. Easy to feed rope out and nice to belay you can feel the ridges helping to slow down the climber on decent.

It's a belay device, it works. My first one was getting a bit battered so replacing it with a like for like was a no brainer. No bells and whistles, no mechanical parts to go wrong. Single rope, double rope, 9mm to 11mm ropes, all used with no issues. Best belay device I have used (And I have used many different types)

Great affordable ATC for our Scouts who are just getting started in top rope climbing and rappelling. The ropes we have move smoothly through it, and the boys find them to have great control over lowering speed when belaying.
