The inserts themselves are OK, they will do what they need to do. The tool that is supplied on the other hand is absolutely useless. A normal tap is always in two sizes, the first slightly smaller and the second the correct size. Also a normal tap is slightly tapered from where it starts to cut to make the cutting process progress smoothly. The tool as supplied has only a tapered nose with some cutting flutes which themselves are not very sharp. The rest of the actual thread cutting starts at the final size necessary to fit the insert, resulting in insufficient cut thread to create enough force to push the nose into the aluminium of the cylinder head. There are no instructions with the set but I'm pretty tech minded and started by drilling out the old damaged thread at a size usually compatible with the larger outer thread size of the insert. Even so, and with applying as much pressure as possible while trying to keep the tool correctly aligned with only a socket wrench, I ended up with a thread that was barely visible and totally useless to screw the insert into. Luckily I have a workshop with a lathe and spent half a day machining and tapping a larger insert (18mm o/d, 14mm i/d) from round steel stock. The (for the second time) damaged plug hole needed to be carefully reamed out and tapped with a normal 18x1.5 tap set to enable me to insert my home made solution. Problem is solved but was totally unnecessary. I would suggest to buy the inserts separately and use a standard 16x1.25 tap set to cut the new thread, that worked perfectly on a second head repair. Only problem is that the 16x1,25 size is normally not included in a typical tap set and will have to be purchased separately at a typically inflated price for single sizes. All in all a disappointing and time consuming experience, I would NOT recommend this set to anyone.
