For me this is to be a replacement for one of the two transom clamp bolts on a Mercury outboard that secured it to the transom. The sailing boat to which the motor was attached has not been used for a number of years. It is only a small boat and the outboard is the "auxiliary" power unit. One of the original clamp bolts had corroded so much it had become immoveable. Having received this new one I have cut the original threaded rod with an angle grinder. This has allowed the outboard to be removed. Now it is on the bench (and not as it was a thin piece of wood away from GRP) the next step will be to see if heat can break the corrosion. If not I shall have to drill out the original, not something I am looking forward to. Then chase the threads and install this replacement transom clamp.
