I share audio equipment and webcams between my work and personal computers. I used to have to unplug a hub and plug it into computers and sometimes the hub would not work. With the USB switcher, it makes it super easy to switch between my two Macs. Love that the USB cables are numbered so you know which computer is connected where. Can always rely on Cable Matters for providing equipment that works.

This 4-port USB-A and USB-C Switch works amazing. It's small and compact and comes with two high quality USB-C cables for establishing optimal data connections. The collars on the cables are numbered for easy cable management which is especially useful if the switch is mounted out of sight. With the 4-port switch connected to my laptop, the Win11 device manager detects a Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub, and a Generic USB Hub in addition to the existing Universal Serial Bus controllers. The switch has an optional USB-C power input port, allowing you to connect an external power supply. The manual recommends a 5V/3A power adapter if the two USB-C host ports provide insufficient power. I think this is an excellent option to have as computers and electronics always run best when they're getting the power they need. There is also a power on/off switch located on the side of the device which is especially useful if you want to reconfigure your connections, and then power it back on when ready. The 4-port switch comes with a small remote which is already paired and ready for use. I'm able to distance myself to another room and easily control the switch, line of sight is not needed. The switch can also be toggled to enable or disable remote control use.The switch does not support video output on the USB-C ports; I did attempt using a USB-C to HDMI display alt mode cable and no signal was detected. The manual suggests that you could purchase a Cable Matters (Model 103046) SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter for Windows to share video. I do not have that particular part for testing, but the part uses a USB-A connection. The remote control has 4-buttons: Pair, which is used to pair the remote, and is not required as the remote is already paired to the switch. Buttons number 1 and 2 simply switch you back and forth between computers 1 and 2. The next button toggles you back and forth between computers 1 and 2 provided they are both actively connected, otherwise the Next button won’t do anything. The main reason I chose this 4-port switch from Cable Matters is for working on 2 different computers, with an easy way to toggle access to SSD and flash storage, as well as external mouse and keyboard, resulting in a much more comfortable and orderly work area. Overall, this is a good quality device and it works great, definitely recommended.

If you’ve ever tried juggling two computers with a single set of peripherals, you’ll know it’s roughly as elegant as herding caffeinated cats. Enter this rather brilliant USB switch—a small, unassuming device that quietly transforms a chaotic workspace into something approaching civilised order. This little box of tricks doesn’t just *work*, it performs with a level of polish that suggests someone actually thought through the daily reality of toggling between machines. With support for both USB-A and USB-C peripherals, it comfortably caters to a modern setup—whether you’re switching between a sleek MacBook and a battle-hardened desktop, or managing a work/life device split with all the grace you can muster after your third coffee. The real party piece, however, is the included remote control. A humble button, yes, but an immensely satisfying one. With a simple click, you can switch control between two computers without fumbling for cables or awkwardly crawling under the desk like some sort of forgotten office goblin. It’s the kind of small joy that makes a bigger difference than you’d expect. I found myself quite unnecessarily delighted every time I used it. That button and I now have a rapport. And performance? Blisteringly quick. Thanks to 10Gbps data transfer speeds, there’s no bottleneck when shifting files, streaming high-res content from a USB drive, or syncing devices. Peripherals—from external hard drives and drawing tablets to webcams and microphones—respond as if directly plugged in. No lag, no drama.Design-wise, it's a smart, understated bit of kit. The housing is reassuringly solid, compact enough to blend neatly into your workspace, and sturdy enough to withstand the odd elbow knock during particularly animated Zoom calls. It doesn't scream for attention, which is ideal—because it doesn’t need to. It knows its worth. What truly impresses is the convenience it adds without demanding any fanfare. There’s no complex setup, no software installations, no mysterious blinking lights that make you question your life choices. It simply does its job with a quiet confidence, streamlining your desk and decluttering your mind in the process. In short, it’s a thoughtful solution to a daily irritation. And in the grand scheme of home office sorcery, that’s worth its weight in gold—or at least the avoidance of one more tangle of USB cables. If you’re running dual machines and want to do it with a touch more elegance (and fewer bruised shins), this USB switch deserves a permanent spot on your desk.
