I am using a MacBook Pro M1, and had 4 external 4TB SSD and 2 external 5TB spinning disks connected via adapters directly to the Mac. Often enough I had disk disconnects, but was never able to pinpoint if it was the SSDs or the spinning disks that were causing the disconnect.After learning about the Element 5, and planning to buy a new MacBook Pro, I bought an Element 5, connected my SSDs and the spinning disks.However, I still got once in a while the disk disconnect, but in the short time I use the Element 5 only 3 times.I contacted Caldigit US support to report the problem, and was told, that some of my disks are drawing too much power, which subsequently can "overwhelm" the Element 5, thus, causing all disks to get disconnected. I needed to restart the Element 5 and all disks were connected again. Support further suggested to rotate the disks to different ports, or using USB-C cable for USB-A connected disk, what I did.Subsequently I found out that the 2 spinning disks were causing the problem, even though they both were not used at the same time.I now connected both to an adapter which is directly connected to the Mac, and my problem has been resolved. No problem with the 4 SSDs connected to the 3 Thunderbolt ports, and 1 connected to the USB-C port.Overall I am happy with the Element 5, despite the fact I can't connect ALL my external disks, but this is not a problem of the Element 5, but in my case the spinning disks.
