I'm not sure why they are called that - maybe something to do with a butchery term?This tool will help replace those rings but I think this is better suited for use in fixing wire in fencing.Anyway, the trick with setting a hog ring is to clamp the ring closed in a circle gripping the upholstery with the open ends meeting rather than have it flatten like a hair pin and allow the gripped material to pull out of its grip.
