This is a beautifully designed handheld calculator with a classic feature-set. The Casio SL300SV keyboard is ergonomically laid-out, intelligently integrating the most useful everyday functions whilst avoiding being overly 'scientific.' The attached hardcover folds over like a wallet, protecting the calculator from dings or scuffs. Though pocket-sized, the SL300SV boasts a large eight-digit LCD display (16-digit approximations), 3-key independent memory, as well as keys for percent, square root, sign change, profit margin % key, 4 constants (k) for +,-,x,÷, together with a key-rollover buffer. It automatically turns itself off when not in use, and the dual-power 'Solar Plus' operating system switches automatically from solar energy to battery power if the lighting changes. It takes me back to the late 1970's, when in my late teens I attended a junior engineering technician course at college. Happily then, the SL300SV inherits the distinctive 'look and feel' that helped to establish Casio as an acknowledged 'standard' in the global calculator market. Historically, in 1957 the Kashio brothers invented the first electronic calculator with their Casio Model 14-A. Mind you, 'back in the day,' the Model 14-A was more a 'desktop' model insofar as it also incorporated the actual desk! I had one just like this, only smaller, that lasted for over 10 years. The solar power function is great. Works even with electric lights. I was hoping to find another smaller one like I had. This is the smallest one I found but still fits in a pocket or a little box on my desk. Very good calculator.

Early days but so far so good. Clear & easy to read screen, has an off button which I like as most of them just turn themselves off after a time (this one does that too but only after 8 mins which is a bit too long for frugal battery usage?). Has a fold over case which is just about OK ( ish), very cheap plastic I would have expected something a little better quality for the price, & mine is for home use only, case would not stand up to much robust use reckon it would split. Has a little peel off sticker on the LH side of the case which you stick the calculator to (quite a strong stick atm) & fold the RH side over the calculator screen & buttons to protect it. Works as both solar & battery & warranty states battery is only guaranteed for 3 years but people do state some go on far longer than this.....we shall see. I should think battery would be replaceable somehow with the back off as warranty also states size of battery for replacement.

A few weeks in, so far so good. Handy portable size and shape. Easy to use and useful functionality. If it proves durable it will deserve the fifth star.
