Celestron 93421 X-Cel LX Series - 1,25 inch oculair, 5 mm

Ordered a 25MM and a 5MM ocular and a 2x Barlow in the X-Cel LX series.The 2x barlow and 25MM ocular were perfect. Solid, good grip, good field of view and nice eye relief.Unfortunately the 5MM is a nightmare (as reported by others as well). First one came with air bubbles in the lens/glass. One big bubble and several smaller ones. Requested a successful and quick replacement by Amazon (kudos). Unfortunately the replacement was filled with paint snippets between the lenses, so this was even more annoying so returned it and now I'm awaiting my money from Amazon.. Meanwhile I ordered a 7MM which will arrive tonight. Hopefully I'll have more luck with this one..

Enthousiast over m’n nieuwe oculair zag ik gelijk na uitproberen dat er midden in het beeld een flink stuk vuil in de oculair zit achter de vergroting. Erg slordig van zo’n gerenommeerd merk! De oculair ziet er verder netjes en solide uit.Gelijk teruggestuurd en in afwachting van m’n terugbetaling. Wilde toch weer een nieuwe bestellen maar ineens in een week tijd een gigantische prijsstijging van €92,74 voor 136,71 euro! Ga ik dus niet doen. Erg teleurgesteld in dit alles.

I purchased the 25mm through Amazon. Easy to use, not too fussy about eye position, good sharpness across field of view. I have never used really high end eyepieces so cannot compare to those but this is a step up from basic eyepieces and offers better field of view than plossls.I am using the X-Cel LXs in a C11 with a focal reducer attached i.e. 1800mm focal length and f6.3.I also have the 18mm, 12mm and 9mm versions of this eyepiece. The only issue I have is that the rubber ring at the top of the 12mm came off - this is a known issue with these eyepieces, caused in part by the cap being pretty tight. Was easily solved by gluing the rubber ring back on with superglue. The 25mm has had most use and the rubber ring has been fine on that. The lenses are advertised as parfocal i.e. requiring little or no refocusing when you swap from one focal length to another. I guess "little" is subjective but my set definitely require refocusing when swapped and more than just a little in my opinion.Despite these minor issues I am extremely happy with these lenses and the 25mm in particular.

I'm a bit of a novice to all this but I bought this to give me a bit more detail. I have a 10mm eyepiece but the Field of View is so narrow that it makes it really hard to use. Having used this, I'm now looking to buy either a 5mm and / or replacement 10mm because the FoV is so good. Also, distance of eye from eye piece is good. My 10mm Prossl means i almost have to stick my eye IN the lense, whereas this gives me a bit more distance (eye to lense)

Ever since I tried one of these eye pieces, I wanted to get one to test it on my new dobsonian telescope. This thing does not dissapoint. I have used better and worse for sure, but x-cel lx is by FAR the most bang for your money.The eye relief is incredible, very comfortable. Compared to an UWA eye piece, this one is a lot more clear, no chromatic aberration and almost almost perfect flat field to the end. The FOV is aboutm60% and it is usable, even close to the edges. The construction is rock solid and the twist up eye guard is a great addition. What I like the most is that if you switch between X/CEL eyepieces, you do not need to refocus, if any. I now have the 25mm, 9mm and 2x Barlow, highly highly recommended product line.

L'ho regalato alla mia ragazza per usarlo su un piccolo refrattore (Celestron Travelscope 70, apertura: 70mm, lunghezza focale: 400mm) su cui ha un ingrandimento effettivo di circa 58x.Appena scartato il regalo, pronti, via: siamo scesi in cortile per vedere quel che si poteva (la serata era un po' nuvolosa, eravamo in piena città a Torino e l'ora non era delle migliori).L'oculare risulta luminoso, per essere un 7mm, e per dare un'idea risulta poco meno luminoso del 10mm dato in dotazione col telescopio. Inoltre, è ben fatto e robusto (un po' pesante, ma sono comunque 6 lenti).Nonostante il telescopio sia acromatico e soffra di aberrazione, come si evince dalle foto l'obiettivo le riduce al minimo: nulla che non si possa rimuovere in un minuto con GIMP o Photoshop. Il campo è largo e inquadra totalmente la luna. Siamo riusciti a dare anche una sirciata in fretta e furia a Giove, u cui si vedono le bande e si apprezza molto la qualità superiore rispetto agli oculari dati in dotazione inizialmente.Le foto che vedete sono state scattate da un telefono montato con un adattatore e utilizzando una montatura parecchio instabile (quella data in dotazione al telescopio, sigh). Nonostante tutti gli inconvenienti della serata, riesce a catturare molti dettagli anche utilizzando lo zoom digitale del telefono che, essendo interpolante, fa abbastanza pena (il cratere Tycho che vedete in foto, si osserva molto meglio live!).Quindi, che dire per tirare le somme? Un buon obiettivo che per lei si è rivelato un regalo/investimento da non cambiare nel momento in cui passerà ad un telescopio più avanzato, che è solido e ben costruito e che è in grado di farsi apprezzare anche su attrezzature da principianti!
