CISA: Veiligheidsspioniers

This is excellent quality. I installed it as a replacement for a Yale 77 which has a bolt made of flimsy pot metal and was getting forced on a regular basis - the Cisa is much better quality and much beefier.The design is a little idiosyncratic, but that is Italian engineering for you! The lock's bolt is under constant light spring pressure into the door post but once it is locked, it is also under pressure of a much stronger spring AWAY from the door post. The door is opened either by operating the electro-magnetic release or the red button on the lock itself, either of which frees the strong spring which then slams the bolt back into the lock case with a loud smack. When the door closes, the lock is re-cocked by the smaller bolt riding against a roller in the strike case. A little eccentric, but it makes for a very positive unlocking action which is completely independent of the electricity supply.Unusually, the electro-magnetic latch is inside the lock rather than on the strike side, and this complicates the wiring. The sloppy way to do this uses a flexible connection on the hinge side and then crosses the door to the lock. It is much neater to use a set of spring-loaded contacts and cross the gap on the lock side. Cisa has just the thing for this - their 06510 Current Transfer Unit which is a well-kept secret so remember where you heard it first. I chiselled mine into the door post and the open edge of the door, a couple of inches below the lock. If you do it right, all you will see is half an inch of cable where it enters the bottom of the lock case.The lock has not yet had a good work-out but I expect it to perform well. My main concern is about the spring-loaded contacts which flex the wires about 1/4in, every time the door opens. We shall have to wait and see how this holds out.Update 5 December 2015: The lock has now had a thorough work-out and it is still performing without any faults. It has never broken down and the local riff-raff has not managed to force it, something that happened frequently with the cheapo Yale rimlock that I had previously. The spring-loaded contacts in the door have caused no problems either. This lock is the dog's bollocks and I have a spare in stock for my next house.
