Spectaculaire zonnestralen, vintage tinten en opvallende moderne kleuren: ColorTone geconcentreerde vlekken mengen zich met vrijwel elke afwerking en zijn speciaal geformuleerd voor gitaarbouwers.
Het zijn nauwkeurige en authentieke snaarinstrumentkleuren, zoals onderzocht en gespecificeerd door onze eigen gitaarafwerkingsexperts - niet de generieke meubelkleuren die u bij andere leveranciers zult vinden.
Deze geconcentreerde graanversterkende vlekken zijn zuinig; een beetje gaat een lange weg. Verminder ze met alcohol of water om kaal hout mooie vervagingsbestendige kleur te geven, zonder het graan te verbergen. Ze zijn ook veelzijdig. Voor het aanbrengen van transparante kleurgetinte lagen kunnen Colortone vlekken direct in vrijwel elke afwerking worden gemengd: nitrocellulose lak, schellak, waterbasisafwerkingen en gekatalyseerde vernissen of lakken.

Colortone vloeibare vlekken zijn lichtechte metaalcomplexe kleurstoffen die voor vrijwel elke gewenste intensiteit kunnen worden gemengd. In tegenstelling tot kant-en-klare vlekken in de ijzerhandel, zijn ze geformuleerd voor gitaarafwerking. Een fles van 2 oz maakt twee liter vlek bij normale concentratie. Omdat het vloeistoffen zijn, kunnen ze nauwkeurig worden gemeten voor kritische kleurafstemming - een pluspunt voor overspuiten en bijwerken.

It definitely gives the wood an aged appearance. It may look better on lighter wood, but I find it acceptable on okoume. I did a pore fill with finishing resin, and used vinyl sealer before adding the stain.

This does give the correct color which can be changed by dye to liquid ratio. It isn’t easy to apply and took some figuring out even after watching some videos. I was in the process of returning it but found ways to correct blotching, streaking etc.The small bottle will go along way and I suspect work for a huge number of guitar necks (far more than I ever expect to use it on). I wish they made a smaller bottle as I don’t need this quantity. The cost and mail cost is very high. As for returning it, I did notice even though Stewmac had accepted my return they stated the item had to be returned in original condition. Well how do you do that if you tried it and you found it didn’t do what you expected it to. I guess that is a way to put people returning items that have been opened.In future I will look elsewhere and already found very similar dyes at a far better cost.

It was my first time stripping and refinishing a headstock to customize. I used denatured alcohol to dilute the ColorTone stain, the coloring came out a slight shade darker than the original but that was to my liking. I finished with several coats of a water based poly and lastly sanded with a progression of 800, 1000, 1400, to 1800 grit sandpaper. I took my time with this project and was very happy with the results.

I used this stain for a refinish on a cheap Stratocaster neck for a build I was working on. I achieved very good results using around 10 drops into some Denatured Alcohol. One thing I found out is you need to make sure the project your working on is sanded completely down to bare wood. I was staining a neck that had a light coat of poly and I ended up with a couple spots the stain didn’t take. All in all it was easy to work with and I got the results I wanted. Is it overpriced? Yes. But Stew Mac makes good products.

The bottle design is terrible. You have to create your own opening, leading to inconsistent results and MESS. The color is way more Yellow than "amber", and doesn't soak into wood very easily, especially if there's sand and sealer/polyurethane remnants on the wood(impossible to remove without ridiculous amounts of sanding). The pigment itself is so easily disturbed, and just has a horrible time soaking into a finish or wood. Additionally, I found combining this stain with any other finish (specifically steel wool rust/vinegar to create a relic'd maple neck) created an awful, artificial green color. I pretty much ruined an entire guitar project because I bought this awful product. I am consistently and continually disappointed by anything StewMac has to offer in the way of luthier work, despite being the "house hold name" of guitar luthier. OVERRATED.
