Lightweight pad, suitable for a 13-14 inch laptop.The fan speed isn't adjustable, however the default RPM is effective and reasonably quiet (not silent).If you're not familiar with Cooler Master and think they sound like another rebrand, they're actually THE stalwart PC cooling manufacturer. They even make AMD's stock CPU coolers, albeit those are not ones to particularly brag about. Nevertheless, you can take comfort in CM being an original, reputable and specialized brand.However this pad has some flimsy aspects to be wary of, hence the less-than-perfect rating.First off, if you pick the pad up by the center while its running, the plastic case underneath the fan can flex upwards and collide with the blades. Since the large fan covers the majority of the pad surface, this means you have to be careful to only pick it up by the outer edges.Secondly, the USB power lead is thin and develops crinks & dents easily. It's designed to snap into a tight cable management channel with little nubs in it (which cause the dents). This works, but you feel like you're damaging the lead in the process, and since it is hardwired to the fan there's no practical way of replacing it.

I have a Dell XPS laptop as job requirement but use primarily on my desk connected to external monitor and keyboard. I find laptop fans intrusive, and the Dell seems to get insanely hot. This cooler sits comfortably on the desk and the fan just whirs at a constant speed all day. It keeps the laptop cool, and the internal fan is rarely heard. The cooler fan is not silent, but it is quiet and the sound is more like a traditional desk-top fan hum: constant, low frequency and far less intrusive. Good value.
