I got this pump so that it could pump water from the water but eight meters up into my house 🏠 , the average house around here is only 8 meters high but it would be pumping up through my window into a container in the property !!!The pump doesn't come with any hose and only has about 3 metres of 2.5 mm2 cable !!!You could use the 8 m of red and black cable but then you would need something to connect the solar panel !!!I had to source my own set of leads for connecting a battery to the solar management system and I also bought 10 meters of 4 mm squared cable for connecting the pump ', I soldered the four mm Square cables to the 2.5 mm squared cable from the pump ' but if you were going to run this pump any length of distance you would need a substantially large a cable in 12 volt DC along with larger switch gears etc !!!I have got a heavy duty garden hose that can cope with the high pressure over the distance that I'm running it ' but I do think it's a little unfortunate that it doesn't come with a screw type fitting for you to fit solid pipe onto the end of it because soft pipes will split !!!The solar panel is quite big and takes up a lot of space and ideally needs to be situated on a roof to avoid damage ' but this solar panel appears to have been delivered without any damage 👍🤠Personally I think you could do with bigger connectors for the cables going into the solar management system ' and especially if you have to run this pump over any length of distance where you would require larger a cables !!!Obviously I read all the negative reviews before buying it ' so I was prepared to get a battery 🔋 which is required for starting the solar management system ' and I bought cable's in the sizes that I felt were needed ', there is always a weakness in any circuit so make sure the weakness is the fuse because I had a motorcycle that caught fire when I used too smaller wires with too smaller switch !!!I am surprised at the cable coming out of the pump isn't larger than 2.5 millimeters Square for a pump that they claim can pump 70 meters ' but perhaps their engineers know something I don't !!!Some of the reviews said that you couldn't turn the pump on and off but the instruction manual I have says that you push the button twice for on ' and twice for off !!!Granted the instructions are very small and not very clear ' so would have been nicer to have larger instructions on a laminated sheet wrapped around the pump ' or in a larger box with the solar controller !!!Also on reading the instructions it tells you to connect the battery to the controller first then the solar panel and then the load which in my case is the pump !!!I solded my pump wires to the extension cable but feel like the pump should have come with at least 8 meters of cable if not 10 and preferably in a larger size like 4 mm Square !!!My understanding is that a 48 volt pump would could use considerably less ampage because a bigger motor wouldn't have to work as hard to do the same job and so you could use thinner cables and switch gear ' but this is perfect for me because I can run it off for 12 volt car battery hopefully 😜👍🤠 !!!This is more of a project for me so I'm not going to panic if something doesn't work ' but I will update this when I have my system up and running 💨🎽 😊👍🤠Instructions tell you to lubricate with the silicone grease provided but no silicone grease arrived with my package and I'm not in a hurry to go disassembling a perfectly good new pump !!!Anyone that's ever tried to run a DC cable any length of distance will know about something called volt drop !!! Usually the way to overcome this is by using a larger cable size ' which can sometimes be 4 times larger depending on the distance that you're running it !!!The pump is bigger and heavier than I thought it would be but this is probably a good sign as it means it should in theory last longer than say one of those £15 transfer pumps ' which are only meant to run for 15 minutes due to the risk of overheating !!!The fact that the pump has a solar panel means that it's not usually running constantly so it gets a chance to cool down which should make it last longer !!!Having said that if you calculate the usage of a fridge freezer and then work out the actual running time with shut off periods for the compressor then you would normally find that you need 10 of these solar panels for it to run constantly !!!This is obviously dependent on your make , size and manufacture of fridge freezer 😜👍 but for the pump I think a couple of solar panels should do the trick so I may well invest in another one or two !!!I'm a bit of a grid down kind of guy so if it works eventually then I'm usually happy 😁😜👍🤠My take on the instructions is that the reason the pump comes with three meters of cable is so that it can sit three meters below the surface of the water which should a keep the cables colder and b make up for any evaporation in the water source !!!Obviously common sense with dictate that you never want to run a pump out of water unless it's specifies otherwise ' because most pumps require the liquid passing through them to help keep them cool !!!This pump will essentially save me carrying large water containers up and down my stairs 30 times or more 😜👍🤠The only other downside is that you need to make or buy mountings for the solar panel ' and that's not even counting fitting it to a roof which may require some level of skill !!!I am further considering making a container that will house the battery and the solar management system ' because the advice seems to be to keep the distance between battery and solar controller as short as possible ' last at the same time leaving room to maneuver 😊👍🤠It's now the 27th of April 2024 ' and I have established that the instructions are using imperial measurements ' so the cable being recommended for the pump which they say should be 10 AWG ' is 6mm2 in metric size !!!Obviously this size would need to increase over a distance because of volt drop !!!My other concern is that there is no isolator where the power from the solar panel cable's meet the solar management system !!!If you needed to shut off the power for any reason to the solar management system you couldn't without unscrewing the solar panel power cables which is a bit late if things are catching fire or melting !!!Add to that the fact that there are no external fuses or breakers supplied ' then you also have a risk of electrocution ' or fire 🚒🔥🧯' so I would recommend purchasing the correct rated breakers and double pole isolation switches to protect things and prevent the risk of fire or electrocution !!!If you were trying to disconnect the solar panels from the solar management system in an emergency 🦺' then you would need to cover the solar panels to prevent more electricity traveling down the cables ' otherwise it's like working on " live " street lighting ' except that street lighting in this location is AC and we'll throw you if you get shocked by it !!!If you get shocked by a high enough current in a DC cable circuit you will not 🚫 be able to let go until the power is turned off by someone else !!!My advice to anyone needing to stop 🛑 someone that's being electrocuted ' is that you should wear rubber willy boots and try to turn the power off first !!!This project is proving a little more expensive than first thought and would benefit from expert advice in both the plumbing and electrical Fields ' but if you just after the basic kit to do the job then in a grid down 👎 situation it could work !!!I am surprised that the instructions and many of the tools that you are meant to get are in imperial measurements because to the best of my knowledge only America still uses the old imperial system ' most most of Europe seems to have gone metric years ago !!!Perhaps the pump was made in America !!!I will update further when I have more information or have completed assembling my system !!!I was wrong about the length of cable it comes with for the solar panels , it only comes with 3 m of live and three meters of neutral cable !!!I once worked on streetlighting and we had to join cables using a resin pack ' but I didn't have a resin pack ' so I used the resin that I had to seal the join that I had soldered and used heat shrink over !!!I slid some plastic tubing over the cables to create my resin pack ' and if I had one piece of advice for anyone doing the same thing ' it would be to pack the bottom of the tube that will hold the resin with something like sealant to stop the resin running out the bottom 😉👍I have finally tested the system and everything worked perfectly although I did only run it for an hour !!! I intended packet away again afterwards for storage purposes until I find a more permanent location to set it up !!!I use the neutral jump lead from a set of car jump leads to act as a ground between the solar panel frame and a metal stair railing !!!I got some legs for the solar panel from renergy through Amazon and all the parts I bought were from Amazon too !!!Obviously anything electrical that you care about needs a fuse to protect it and I'm a big fan of these trip switches !!!Obviously it's important to get the amperages correct ' but I read the instructions and the pump is rated at 10 amps but requires a seven and a half amp fuse so I managed to install a blade fuse holder with the seven and a half amp blade fuse !!!The beauty of using the trips which is is that you can isolate the supply from the solar panel if you need to work on it and don't want it live ' and you can also isolate the battery which I use a 30 amp trip on !!!It's important to connect it in the right order ' so with the trips which is it makes it easy to turn the battery on first ', then the solar panel ', then the load which in this case was the pump !!!I checked the cable for heat but it didn't get hot at the pump end on the wires or cable ' and nothing tripped out even when I submerged my sholdered joint linking the two and a half mil square wires from the pump to the four millimetre square wires of a solar cable which is double insulated !!!The pump was easily able to pump as high as the house and I was able to put my thumb over the end to use it as a garden jet for watering ' and cleaning the path !!!I am very pleased with the product and got lucky that nothing was damaged in transit !!!I normally work with a car battery but the life PO4 batteries have more power and don't get damaged by being discharged past half charge like a car battery does !!!The 100 amp hour PO4 battery has four times the power of my car battery and can last ten years instead of three like the car battery 🔋They do recommend increasing the cable size from the pump to six millimeters squared from the two and a half millimeters squared coming out of the pump but four millimetres squared worked fine with my pump over the 10 meters plus the three meters of two and a half mil to the pump ' and none of the cables got hot ' but obviously increasing cable thickness by joining other cables onto the side should increase the power because it will reduce volt drop in the four millimeter cable running between the pump and the controller 🎮 !!!Just remember to stagger your connections to save on space when you feed it through conduit !!!I am a qualified plumber by trade and my father was an electrician who I worked with ' that I have learnt a lot more from watching YouTube videos !!!If I was going to improve my current setup then I would add extra cables to the sides of the pump cable to avoid volt drop ' and I would add a breaker on the pumps positive cable ' but other than making it a bit neater in a permanent set up ' then I am happy with it as it stands !!! Obviously I don't need it as a borehole pump and it is important to have your pump situated in cool water but mine showed no sign of overheating or even getting warm although it was only run for an hour !!!
