I have two of these white-noise machines that I got about 25 years ago, and they still work well. They have a different brand name, but are the same. As I'm writing this, I just turned two of them on to mask the sound of my neighbor's dog barking, and it's 9:45pm. I cannot hear the dog now.I have 4 of these machines spread through my house and I turn them on and off with remote control outlets. If I need just a little white-noise, I turn on a machine that's further away, and if I need lots of white-noise, I turn on one close by or multiple machines. Eventually I will have at least one white-noise machine in every room of my house.

Our dogs bark at a noisy pickup that goes up our street late at night when we're asleep. Their sudden barking wakes us suddenly from a dead sleep and just about gives us a heart attack. So we decided based on the many positive reviews to try this Marpac white noise generator.The sound the unit makes reminds me of flying on a airliner with the combination of the air nozzles above and the soft drone of the engines. The tone of the rushing air sound can be adjusted by twisting the top. The volume (speed of the fan) has a high and low switch. This should allow most to tailor a sound that's right for them.It took a few nights to get used to but my wife and I are definitely sleeping better.I've cut my sleeping medication use in half so that's a big plus.It doesn't block out the noisy truck completely so the dogs still give us the occasional heart attack but thankfully it happens much less.
