After wasting plenty of time and brake line getting terrible flares with the standard 20 euro tool I decided to by this. And boy what a great tool this is. Perfect flares every single time. (Really, out of the 6 I made, 6 were perfect.)Don't waste time on the cheap tools. Buy this the first time and do it right. Also, You can make a SAE Male (Bubble) and Female (double) flare. With the SAE tool.

This is a well-made, quality hand held tool which will enable you to make up lengths of brake pipe at home with minimum fuss and bother. The results are excellent.I would recommend a more sophisticated tool (aka expensive) for those who need to make pipes on a frequent basis, but for the rest of us this is fine. Unlike cheaper tools it works equally well on manufacturer-fit steel brake pipes as well as copper/copper alloy. As it is a handheld tool you can easily cut and flare pipes already fitted to your car, which means you can replace only the corroded section of existing pipe with new, avoiding the need to remove and replace the entire original pipe.It pays to read the instructions properly and to understand what is happening at each stage of the procedure. For example, the blank stop screw is there to push and locate the new pipe into the correct place for flaring inside the body of the tool. This is why the two clamp screws only need to be finger tight... and the 5mm gap you are urged to measure is not critical once you get the hang of the process. My top tips for best results are:1. Cut the pipe with a pipe cutter rather than a hacksaw (such as this one 2. Always apply a tiny smear of the supplied grease to the flaring tool3. Always check the new flare for any swarf produced

Seemed well made and did the job very well. I used it to flare in-situ steel brake pipes and make new copper ones. I noticed that one reviewer said the tool had split when making the flare so to prevent any risk of this, I put an additional clamp across the open end to support it when flaring steel pipes. Copper is much softer so i didn't take any precaustions. Seemed to make very good flares first time and I've not had any leaks on the multiple joints I made. Do make sure you cut the brake pipe square at the end with a pipe cutter and de-burr the outer edge with a fine file. I deburred the inner edge with a 5 mm drill. Also, make sure the pipe is free of paint or lubrication so it doesn't slip back in the tool when you tighten the die. I used cellulose thinners or brake cleaner, and marked the pipe with a felt tip so I could check it wasn't moving once I'd clamped it.Also claimed it was made in GB!
