I have followed all the instructions for installing the software and inserting the SIM card into the reader and although the device (with SIM card inserted and light lit up) is recognized by my PC in the USB drive, the software repeatedly returns the message "please make sure the device and SIM card are ready". Any help at all to get this working is appreciated. May then be able to rate the device!

It wasn't.I have a Nano SIM from a Samsung Note8 that irreparably blew apart due to aging battery expansion. It's where I saved all my contacts (as I had been invited to do by the phone). Bought this device to copy my SIM to my Windows PC (it apparently only "works" on Windows).Downloaded the required software, and installed it without issue. Used the proper adapter in which the SIM sat perfectly flat, and inserted it in the reader, and the reader in turn into a USB slot on my PC. The reader lit up as if it were ready, and I ran the software. It detected nothing.Fiddled with it for a couple of hours and gave up.If you're looking for a SIM card reader, I'd strongly recommend against this one.

It reads SIM cards but it took a good long while before it started working. I left it overnight and then it suddenly started reading them properly.

Works but is not very sturdy and will not give years of use.
