Bought this to route a few corners into ceramic bathroom tiles (8mm thick) but the bit doesn't even make a dent. I assume this is made for clay tiles or something.

This piece of kit is ideal for cutting sections through existing wall tiles (and the plasterboard behind them). Using the Dremel cutting tool, which looks like a drill but is really more of a milling cutter, the kit is essential for guiding the cutter in the right direction whilst shielding the user fairly well from debris. Of course, there is a pile of ceramic dust from this job, so remove anything vulnerable from anywhere nearby (and I mean the whole kitchen). The kit allows you to adjust the angle and the depth of cut and I suggest that you only make it exactly what's needed to get through. When I began cutting to increase an electric socket box slot from twin-outlet to triple-outlet, I had not spotted that the original plumber and electrician in the house had chosen to run two central heating pipes within a centimetre of the existing socket outlets, completely unecessarily. They were run so close together that a metal detector could not detect them separately. By having the Dremel kit set to exactly the right depth of cut required, it never touched the central heating pipes.Without this kit, one would have to be trying to control the cutter freehand and I have no doubt that it would be impossible to keep the cutting line required. Even with it, it is easy to 'wobble' a little; marking out with a felt tip beforehand is essential.Let the cutter do the cutting; do not press or push. I can't over-emphasise this. If one were to push in a bid to 'make it cut', it would be easy to wear out or break the cutter. Let it do its job and slowly guide it and the cutter will last for ages.So lots of dust, lots of noise (PPE essential) but a great piece of kit. We now have more electric sockets in our tiled kitchen without any new tiling required.
