I tested these in free air as part of a break in process I do with any sub I buy. Its interesting to hear mechanical noise from the rear of a driver, it tells a lot about how the cooling around the voice coil is managed, how much noise the spider and suspension are making, and how linear the cone movement is. I have been running an MTX terminator 12 at the same time, and to be honest, they are very similar, low mechanical noise and sharp response. These are low cost drivers, so it's silly to have expectations of windows blowing out etc. However, as anyone who's ever designed an enclosure for a subwoofer will know, it's alot to do with box design. I'd say given enough room to breath (as it has quite a small motor assembly) this could move enough air to satisfy most people. I'd say you could get 130db with one driver in the correct enclosure in the right car with the right amp. Power handling will be it's limitation, with only a 50mm coil, it will burn up very quickly if you mistreat it with a massive amp, but treat it properly and it should last - it looks well built. In terms of sound quality, again, with a larger enclosure this could perform beautifully. It's a far cry from the crap churned out by big brand names in the 90s that's for sure! 👌

Great value for money

I normally dont like to be long winded on reviews...but this subwoofer deserves the details. I had never heard of DS18 before looking on amazon. But let me tell you that this sub and the manufacturer has blown me away!I have designed and built audio systems for years , both professionally and for pleasure. So sound quality is very important to me. Being very skeptical about purchasing a subwoofer from a company i had never heard of took alot from me especially being on a tight budget. But i did it and let me tell everyone......i feel like i cheated the manufacturer.This is the cleanest, and loudest entry level subwoofer i have ever heard. Especially in this price range. I paired this single 4ohm sub with the pioneer GM D8701 monoblock amplifier. It is a match made in heaven.Now people....please understand....this is not a competition sub. This sub will not flex your doors. It will not vibrate your mirrors. But it will reproduce bass tones very crisply, deeply, and loudly.I needed a good sub for my single cab Chevy 1500 that wouldnt overpower my aftermarket radio.So i decided on a console design to get the most out of the subwoofer. Before i designed and built my box , i contacted DS18 in miami florida and was immediately connected to a technician named Aaron. He provided me with information not included with the delivered sub to maximize the efficiency of my box design.This turned out to be a huge help. And the customer service there was top notch. After speaking with Aaron i designed my box with a port tune at 38 hz. So far this sub isnt even broken in and i am stunned at the tonal quality and deep rich low bass tones.This subwoofer is very well made and has surpassed any expectation i have of it.This product also has an excellent staff to help answer any question you may have. I was treated with the utmost respect while on the phone with them and after hearing both the sub and their customer service....i am now a hands down fan of their product.As long as you read the specs,use the proper enclosure and pair the right amplifier with this subwoofer....you will not be dissapointed.

Not happy at all on way home from work and subs just went off not even at full power wouldn't buy this product again
