This item is a dual USB Type A 3.0 port female to female panel mount coupler, supports charging and data transfer.Item arrives in polythene bag, includes the coupler, securing ring and rubber grommet cover.Having utilised quite a few of these devices in the past, I feel quite qualified to express my opinion of this one, these relate to my usage in an arcade cabinet capacity.The device is available with both a silver and black surround, where you're utilising it may influence your purchase choice, I ordered the silver iteration as am utilising this on the front of an arcade machine.This device is simple to connect, the only restriction being the thickness of the panel you wish to connect it to, however for most projects (not kitchen worktops etc) this is perfectly sufficient.The device is manufactured of plastic and metal, I was surprised that the silver surround and securing ring are actually comprised of metal which is great.It should be noted that this device does not arrive with any USB cabling, this is both a good and bad thing based on your prospective of value for money, but you will need to provide your own USB cabling here.There are benefits to not including the cabling, especially when that cabling is integrated, as the cabling (whilst substantially thick and quality) can be difficult in flexibility especially when utilised in confined spaces, such as an arcade cabinet.Therefore being able to provide your own cabling in a more flexible variety is frankly a godsend.This item is a USB pass through, in that it's sole intention is to enable front connection to the integrated USB ports that will now reside BEHIND your panel, in this aspect the device performs brilliantly.The securing ring being of metal composition provides a secure fit, the device looks fantastic in chrome from the front panel, but the rubber dust grommet is largely useless as it won't fit securely over the chrome surround due to it's curved nature without some significant tinkering.Regardless of this, this device performs brilliantly and looks fantastic on the front panel, it's a case of less is more here, with the lack of integrated cabling providing a means to supply more flexible cabling when urilised in confined spaces.

I'm an audiophile. I have a decent setup in my barn, a big system in my vehicle, and pairs of studio headphones and monitor earbuds. I love music and the equipment that can reproduce it. In my vehicle I have two digital signal processors (DSPs) for my system, and they both require plugging into my computer to tune. I currently have USB cords running through my vehicle, but I wanted a way to have a jack on the dash for a cleaner look, so I was looking for a solution. When I saw this I had to try it.This is a nice little USB jack! It's a simple design. This is essentially a coupler that has a retention nut to let you install it in a panel. As a coupler it works well. The computer recognized the signals without issue, and the retention nut lets it stay firmly in the panel/dash/mounting surface. The blue color helps you find the plugs in lower light, though as it's not lit in any way it's still difficult in full dark. I do wish there were LEDs inside, but it's not a big deal.Overall I'm pretty happy with this panel-mount coupler. It allows me to have both of my DSPs connected to my computer without USB cords running over the carpet.

FUNCTIONALLY this is perfect. It's a female-female connector for USB-A plugs, and it works perfectly for this. Note, my use-case is for powering joysticks and controllers, not power-intensive or data-transfer applications, so your mileage may vary. But for something like an XBox controller? Perfect. I even like the cap/cover, which allows me to keep the ports clean, and aesthetically, keeps me from seeing the plug itself too much when not in use - it's installed on an arcade cabinet that's painted black, so it fits right in.So why not 5 stars? Well, the ports are held in place by means of a nut that, after inserting from the outside of the cabinet, it threaded on from the inside. Problem in my case is I've 3/4" thick plywood to contend with, and the threads are only 1cm long (under 0.4"). ERGO to install with the provided equipment, I had to use a spade-bit to thin the plywood after drilling the main hole (which should be more than 21mm and less than 25mm) from the back. It's not a huge pain, but it's not ideal, and it's clearly meant for thinner materials. If you're not able or willing to do something like this, you might want a different part, or to fabricate a different way of mounting the ports.All in all, if properly installed, it works well and looks great - I just wish the threading went further back on the body (which is more than an inch long, at around 27mm behind the front lip).
