Fantastic CD. I have both versions of this CD, as well as the DVD.I love this musical and watch/listen to it at least once a week. Steve Balsamo's voice is wonderful and we get to hear just about the full range of his impressive three and a half octaves. 'Somewhere in the Audience' makes me cry every time I hear it (largely because it explains exactly how I felt when I lost my husband...and still feel that way).David Burt is brilliant as the evil Rev Rufus Griswold and the songs 'It Doesn't Take a Genius', 'Trust Me' and 'What Fools People Are' are sung brilliantly.

Though this is more of a Rock Opera performance like Freudiana than Alan Parsons (Like) Rock it is a great creative effort with rich instrumentation interesting Rhythms and complex melodies. It contains everything from very well read Poe Poetry to very solid "Parsons like" rock songs like The Pit and The Pendulum, and then very Broadway Play like powerful vocals , then an almost whimsical It Doesn't Take a Genius.But if you like the Current Mindless / Talentless (beyond grabbing and/or showing your crotch) Pop "Music" don't waste your time.
