Within a couple of hours of installation I had my first visitor, a bright red male cardinal. I filled the feeder with sunflower seeds. I may have to adjust this rating if the squirrels figure out how to defeat the feeder!Update: The squirrels have defeated this feeder. It has happened two nights in a row. I found the feeder on the ground. Fortunately the fall did not break the feeder. My guess is that the squirrels jump from the tree onto the feeder and then cause the feeder to swing violently back and forth, eventually dumping the seed or even causing the weight mechanism to detach from the tube followed by the feeder dropping to the ground.I’m trying a pole with a squirrel baffle to see if that will work. Stay tuned.Update: Squirrels aren’t the culprit. It’s raccoons. I caught them on my blink cameras at midnight. I’ve updated my rating to a 5. This is a sturdy feeder but not raccoon proof.

I've been fighting a losing battle to keep squirrels away from the bird seed in the feeders - the problem is that squirrels are quite bright and have found ways around the other so-called squirrel proof feeders I've tried. As far as I can see and after some weeks of use, this feeder really does keep the squirrels away - I can's see how they defeat the spring mechanism which lowers a barrier when they put their weight on the perches. The mechanism can apparently be fine-tuned to stop heavier birds from feeding too, though I don't have this problem. The feeder looks well-made (and so it should be for the price) and its straightforward to clean. All in all it's worth the money to me - song birds are feeding from it regularly and squirrels no longer even try to get the seed.

Purchased the small squirrel buster because it has no battery. My Yankee flipper looses it's battery quite fast because the squirrels get together and decide who's riding it to wear that battery down! And then the bird seed is gone but at least the doves get to eat what's been spilled. Anyway, the small one works great that now I'm going to order the large one which is as much as a Yankee flipper but don't have to worry about constantly charging it.

I have several of these feeders around the garden and the squirrels can not get into them so long as you don't have them near a handy places where the squirrel could reach out to them. They are excellent feeders and the birds love them. They do get messy sometimes so need cleaning from time to time.I fill them with sunflower hearts which the birds love particularly Goldfinches ! My only negative about these feeders are that they are expensive but they do last !!
