I just bought this book because I have started to play the accordion and wanted to hear (and see the music) for some English folk music played on an accordion. I am not playing the music from this book yet, but to play some of the tunes is one of my "end goals".It is a very good mix of folk music; reels, jigs, hornpipes and also music for dancing too (including Morris). There is lot's of relevant background information too. There are no fingerings given or bass parts included as these are left to the individual player to make up / explore themselves. Many of the tunes are really area specific, which is still interesting, but I would have liked to have seen some more common traditional tunes from England included too (i.e Sailors Hornpipe, Dance to the Daddy, Spanish Ladies etc...).

A lovely book for the Accordionist. A good mixture of tunes - traditional, folk, and modern with clear notation and a useful CD. The tunes range from relatively simple to quite complex and seem to be in the same keys as other books with Playford pieces in (thought limited repertoire of Pl. tunes).

Haven't had a chance to use the book yet but the music on the CD is wonderful to listen too. I am sure the book will be a great aid in my music practice when I get to that.

Wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing - nice selection of folk tunes, well presented, but s a fairly new player, self taught, I had been looking for a book with arrangements for the bass side of the accordion to help build up awareness of different ways to use the basses so that I could then play tunes from books I already have. The other accordion music books I have from this publisher have good and interesting bass parts, so I had expected the bass arrangements of same high quality. I'm not disappointed enough to return the book, but nonetheless, I'm still looking for tutorial source for good bass arrangements suitable for English folk tradition.
