Installing this in my Proxmox box was a breeze. I physically installed it in place of the card that had been there (an X540 10GbE card). It was recognized immediately, and I updated the interface names in Proxmox with the new card's MACs, and everything functioned as it had before.Initially, I was only getting 1Gbps speeds through this card's connection, but updating the firmware resolved that. This machine is in a small 2-node cluster, each has (had) a two-port 10GbE card, with one port connecting to the other node over an SFP28 DAC, and the other port connecting to my 10 Gbps LAN. I've now upgraded both of them to have this card in them, so they have a 25Gbps connection between each other for fast syncs and VM migrations. It's not an issue that my LAN is still only 10 Gbps, as this card is backwards compatible and had no issues talking with my 10Gbps switch over an SFP+ DAC or via SFP+ optical transceivers (I tested both). You need to be sure you have an x8 or x16 slot available to use the full bandwidth, but that's usually not an issue; I haven't tried, but you can probably fit this in an x4 slot; just don't expect to saturate both ports in that configuration. It's a little pricey compared to 10 Gbps cards, but at 2.5x the speed, I can't complain, and it is far cheaper than many other 25Gbps cards I've seen.

If you need to move a ton of data, and have the hardware to take advantage of it, this card is an absolute beast. Its complete overkill, but I have 100Gb in my home lab.I’m using a MikroTik CCR2116-12G-4S+ to route my 5Gb fiber, and I’m using a MikroTik CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN to switch all of my 10Gb+ devices. I have two Mellanox Connect X4’s -- both MCX4121A-ACAT. One in my Synology DS1621+ NAS and one in my 13th gen Intel PC. Using 10Gtek AZS85-S28-M1 SFP28’s (25GBase-SR for Cisco) I was up and running in no time.Transferring between devices I maxed out at 14.7Gb / ~1.8GB… I’m sure I’m hardware limited by the SATA SSD’s in my NAS, but that is still ludicrous speed for a home lab.The only problem I’ve found is when trying to connect these cards to a QSFP28 fiber (MPO to 8x LC) breakout. The circuit bounces every 5 seconds, but – while troubleshooting – I think its an oddity with the MikroTik equipment.Do I recommend? If you have the hardware to utilize it, I absolutely recommend it. Although overkill, its backwards compatible so it will negotiate down to 1Gb (possibly lower).

25GbE is not as easy to set up as 10 GbE - there are more things that need attention, and sometimes it's not obvious why you're not getting a connection. But with the right QFSP28 adapter and a few tweaks on my Mikrotik router, I was able to get it working well. It shows (In Linux/Proxmox anyway) as the original card would, and functions nominally. Pay attention to cooling, but if you're already running 10 GbE the heat won't be any worse. I'd consider this against a used card, but I suspect the used card might be better built, although I didn't notice any downsides here. It wants 8 lanes PCIe 3.0, but if you're not using both ports you can actually get by on a 4 lane slot which will cap throughput to around 4GB/sec vs. theoretical max of 5GB/sec that the card can do. If you plan to do this, make sure your slot is of the "open" type or the card won't fit.

Registers as a Mellanox ConnectX4 LX on my PC and requires nothing more than plug and play to get it installed. I only had a 1g/2.5g/5g/10g SFP+ to RJ-45 adapter to test with it so far, but it registered with my router at 10g, and I was able to plug it into a 2.5g and a 1g switch to make sure it would auto-negotiate automatically. The card does get a little warm after its been running for a few hours. My PC had a slot for 3 extra fans to blow upward from the bottom of the case that I added to help. With just a bit of airflow it seems fine.It works great and my internet has never been so fast or stable. 5/5 exactly as advertised!

So this worked on my windows desktop and its recognized by windows but apparently my SFP+ transceivers don't work with it/are not recognized. I couldn't test the speed as such, need to buy other transceivers to test first. Installing it was easy, remove a PCI slot cover, install it, screw it in, and boot up. It was recognized immediately. I can't comment on the value as I haven't gotten it to work yet so for me it has only potential value so far. I need to do more testing before I can recommend this.
