Bought this as a gift for my sister. We have a large stone mortar and pestle, and while we do occasionally use it, the base is slippy on the counter-top, the pestle is heavy and the whole thing is just a little too heavy and inconvenient to use. She liked the idea of ours and wanted one, but wanted one that wasn't so slippy..We found this one. It's made of a ceramic, rather than stone, so it's a lot lighter and probably more durable. The base is coated with a sticky rubbery mat which means it doesn't slip so much, and the grinding surfaces inside are easy(ish) to clean, and made light work of curry spices etc.It's not very rough on the inside, so you can't grind large things very easily. but if you've got things the size of cardamon pods and smaller spices, this works relatively well. It won't replace a full-size proper mortar and pestle that you'd find in a farmhouse or working kitchen, you couldn't make flour with it too easily, but day-to-day cooking where you need to make a paste or powder it's pretty darn good.As a gift, it's been very successful, and as a culinary item, I'm told it works really well.

This grinder is a tea-riffic invention! It can grind up enough tea to last me a week, so I can finally take a break from constantly brewing up new batches. And let's not forget about its rock-solid build - it's so sturdy, I'm pretty sure it could survive a tea-apocalypse. Plus, that rubber base is a true hero, keeping my tea-blending game strong.
