Nothing not to like. This little plane works as well and some times better than my other planes. The wooden box is nice addition. I don't like tool snobs. I read a couple of negative reviews of this model but mine worked fine after a quick hone. No sole levelling or setting up required. Maybe they improved the manufacturing process. Adjustable throat makes clearing pesky jammed shaving easy. Back to the snobs. If we all bought high end tools we could do nice work ,and enjoy showing off to our toffy mates. Most of us don't drive expensive cars and don't buy expensive tools, but we do produce great furniture and enjoy the satisfaction of doing so without every great tool money can buy.

It requires a bit of touch-up before being ready to use. Faithfull probably kept the price low by cutting a few corners (e.g. the finish) but the building quality is very good, i.e. it's hefty & reassuringly solid piece of metal. Can't see it break unless you are the kind of guy who is sensitive to kryptonite. When it arrived, the mouth was definitely not straight (off by ~1mm on the left side) but that was quickly rectified with a nail file and a straight edge. The blade sharpness was ok-ish, but any sane person who is planning to use sharp tools knows that sharp edges don't last forever anyway, i.e. that is not a fair point for quality assessment and you should get a whetstone anyway. The sole was flat without the blade and slightly concave with the blade on, but this is a general problem of metal planes and not a build-related issue. Simply put, metal has a finite rigidity, therefore tightening the two screws that hold the blade and the mouth adjustment piece produces two small concavities right under the portion of the body where the threads are located. It's not visible to the naked eye but it shows very clearly when flattening the sole on a flat surface. Simple solution: flatten it with the blade on. And I am not even sure the deformation would be big enough to impact performance.Bottom line: this tool _does_ need tuning, but once you get over that, it worksvery well. At this price point it would be truly unfair to expect perfect functionality out-of-the-box. In the end I cut take paper-thin and consistent shavings, and that is all that truly matters.
