I had been intending to purchase a long steel rule for quite some time; but more often than not they were either too short, too expensive or of questionable quality.I have tape measures and rules of various sizes, but when I need to make a long mark I tend to use either a long piece of wood or a 900mm spirit level; neither these is an ideal solution.Having found the Faithfull Aluminium 1m/39 inch Rule on Amazon and seen it's positive reviews I thought I'd give it a go.To start with I have purchased from the 'Faithfull' brand previously and have been impressed with the quality, they appear to be reliable and offer products at competitive prices.Anyway, the rule itself is anodised aluminium (meaning it has been coated with a protective oxide film by the process of electrolysis) rather than steel and this is a definite advantage; firstly because of it's relatively light weight (381g), it's a fairly large piece of kit and just wouldn't be practical in any other type of metal, and secondly it won't rust!The rule is actually 1 metre and 30mm in overall length; with the top 30mm being an unmarked section except for a hanging hole of 10mm in diameter.The rule is 50mm wide and 1mm thick; this is quite a deceptive thickness, on paper it perhaps doesn't sound sufficient, but in reality it most definitely is!The markings are metric one side and imperial the other, indicated by an embossed print; the back of the rule has a metric to imperial conversion chart which is a handy feature.The metric edge is the best edge for marking onto a surface with an ink, it is half the thickness of the main rule and thus enables the marking to be made on a surface without full contact of the rule itself (thus reducing the chances of smudging).The RRP on Amazon at the time of this review is £8.64 and I feel this constitutes good value, but as is often the case with Amazon the price is reduced further and in my case I purchased it for £6.84 (including free Super Saver Delivery, direct from them), this represents excellent value for a product of this type and quality.Overall, I am most pleased this purchase; it is exactly what I wanted and at a price that will be difficult to beat!
