I'm a bit "Obsessive" when it comes to my blades (yes, I still shave w/a straight razor)- I own over 100+ fixed blade knives, the steel that each of my "Artistic Creations" is very important as is the correct manner of "Correct Tempering", when a High Quality Steel is brought to it's "Maximum Potential" for the task's it design is envisioned for, it requires maintenance (just as anything I value in my life does) I have been through MANY different sharpening systems (not inexpensive systems )- I have found that just as in my collection of High Quality blades, in sharpening -"You Get What You Pay For" Fallkniven Diamond Steel Sharpening Steel, is just as "Top Quality" as are their knives (I own 4 of them also, had I found them earlier in my life- I wouldn't own as many knives) or spent the $$ on sharpening systems - This 12" steel is perfect for bringing a HARD blade steel knife down to my preferred angle for the task in which the blade design is most efficient, even steels such as "A2, D2,Co650, S30V, S90V, 154CM" just to name a few of the hard to "sharpen" (any RH higher than 59-60) most Arkansas stones will not remove the steel very easily- this well built Sharpening Steel is the best "hand & elbow grease" tool I have found for my tasks- and it's not ridiculously overpriced. Some may think that I go way too far in my pursuit of "shaving sharp" on my blades that require such an edge, I live way far out (40 miles South of Montana, 45 miles East of S.D.) so when I'm on the back 200 acres and 90+ miles from a hospital- I need my knife to be ready to fulfill ANY task I may need it to- when after skinning out the critter I will have the "backstrap" for my next 3 days of meals, I need to safely remove a sharp object that has embedded itself in my leg, my camp partner's hand or whatever my knife needs to do, this steel will put the edge on that "Tool" so I can quickly get the task done- This review may seem extreme to those who don't live out where we still have bear, wolves, rattlesnakes (a mountain lion or two)- or don't go camping at -20. I do, so I need a system that puts an edge on quickly (I do finalize with a ceramic hone also)- So thanks Amazon for the ability to buy such a well made and very useful item from my part of the wilderness, AND to Fallkniven for knowing what is required to keep those top notch knives in good working order- Thanks to all who take the time to review the items we who can't go see, can make a knowledgeable purchse
