It does what it is supposed to do. It is a replacement blade for Festool HL850 planer, for the smooth (flat) cutterhead. Don't get confused by its slightly curved shape - since the surface of the blade is not parallel to the axis of the cutterhead, the 3D geometry plays out in such a funny way that the blade has to be slightly curved in order to cut along a flat surface when installed. The material appears to be a very hard but brittle high carbon steel or carbide. Hitting a nail with this blade will leave a deep dent or might even chip off a significant part of the edge (don't ask me how I learned this). (I kept a Makita planer with HSS blades for the case if I need to flatten a floor or studs where there is a risk of hitting a nail - with Festool blades, it is just too expensive as you basically need a new blade after each encounter with a nail).Festool planers use a single blade, not two blades as other brands, so the price of this one is not much higher than the cost of carbide blades for other brands. Due to its shape, it fits only Festool, and only Festool blades fit Festool planer.If you own a Festool planer, you know what it is.
