This P80 was part of the set of abrasives I used to remove the heavy build-up on a ceiling. There's popcorn ceiling, and then there is fossilized stalactites. This ceiling was way beyond popcorn and needed much more aggressive abrasives than the P120, P150 and P220 I usually use on drywall.Altogether I used Festool P60 and P80 and Mirka Abranet 80 to grind down the ceiling with a Festool PLANEX. Each abrasive had a role to play, and each worked well. The P60 was very hungry. The P80 was more controllable when the hard covering had been ground down almost to the drywall beneath. Of course they were the usual Festool quality.Cost is commonly mentioned as an "issue" with Festool. In this case I paid $42 for a box of 25 abrasive discs, which is $1.68 per disc. Let me geek out for a sec: That works out to about 0.7 cents per square inch. Compare that to the 5 inch (125 mm) discs for the ROTEX or ETS sanders, such as $40 for 50 discs. That's 1 cent per square inch. That means the PLANEX discs are a bargain compared to the smaller discs. But the cost PER JOB is not high. I used just two P60 and one P80 discs on that nasty ceiling, total $5.04 for the job. With that kind of durability and reliability I'm happy.

The usual Festool quality--flawless.In fact, the discs are so precisely cut that when I first opened the box and counted the discs there seemed to be two missing. When I recounted very carefully they were in fact all present. Two pair had clumped together so neatly I didn't notice they were more than one disc. These abrasive discs are for use on a Planex sander, normally on drywall. The Planex is an expensive tool but it really does work great. I accumulated some damage to both shoulders over the years so the Planex sander on a pole is the only way I want to smooth up anything on a ceiling or above my head. In addition, the dust collection is terrific.Price worked out to $1.60 per abrasive disc. Not cheap. Then again, they work so well with the Planex that the price takes a back seat. For dust collection I use a Festool MIDI dust extractor, with an Oneida Dusty Deputy ahead of the Festool MIDI. The Dust Deputy is mounted on a polyethylene drum. That has been effective in trapping enough dust to prevent filter clogging in the MIDI.If this review was helpful, please consider clicking HELPFUL.
