Firstly, this won’t fit in your pocket. It’s no Discman. But it is portable, and it’s stacked with useful inputs and outputs, so it’s actually really adaptable. There are plenty of possible uses for it, and I had a few in mind when I bought it. For a start I thought it might be ideal as part of a bedside headphone rig. (TL;DR: skip to the end for the results on that test - it’s worth it!) But… only if the quality made it worth installing there, otherwise it’s just a gimmick, and would gather dust in favour of streaming.Well, colour me shocked. Beyond impressed, and I’m a fan of FiiO gear - their products have been my travelling companions for about a decade. This is a really great sounding piece of kit. In fact I would say it’s as good as whichever headphones you plug into it.My first thought was to go retro hipsta and sit in my local cafe with the DM13 playing into my recently purchased FiiO FF3 semi closed earbuds with balanced lead. The sound was good, very clear, very CD, but in all honesty I think the sound from these earbuds has better synergy with the FiiO Q5 (portable DAC), and that’s a much more sensible and compact option: if I’m carrying the DM13 out and about, I might as well take mid sized headphones.Of these my M+D MH40s (the older wired ones) sounded characteristically warm in the upper bass register and rolled off up top - fine for working without the music feeling intrusive, but that rather negates the point of carrying a CD player anywhere.Far better were the V-Moda XS and M100. Now I could hear the music properly, even from the single ended output. As expected the XS had the slightly more ‘direct’ sound, and the M100 more expansive; I’d be happy with either of these out and about with the DM13. Better than streaming? Yes, unless you’re carrying a Mojo or a Q15, and it all still works if you’re somewhere with no signal!I tried a few Bluetooth headphones, mostly M+D: MW50s, MW60s and some newer MH40s. All paired flawlessly, and sounded just fine. I compared it with Bluetooth streamed from my iPhone, and marginally preferred the sound ‘toothed from the DM13. Again, sat in a cafe I’d be happy with any of these.But this is still thinking of it like a glorified DiscMan - what about a proper test?HD650s into the balanced output definitely took it up a notch. More space, more balance, better midrange detail. I started to feel that the CD player itself might essentially be as good as the headphones you use with it, but perhaps limited by it’s amplifier: there was plenty enough volume for me with the 650s, but unsurprisingly the amp wasn’t really driving them to their best.This was even more the case with Sundaras. Even more space, lots of detail, and none of the perception of compression sometimes present when streaming. Just about enough volume, but again definitely lacking drive, especially in the bottom end.But surely that’s the benefit of all those output possibilities - how would it be to take the optical out into a decent DAC? And what if I could carry a balanced signal all the way through a dedicated headphone amp from there? Or from the balanced output on the DM13 straight into one on a more capable amp, maybe something like an iFi Zen Can 3? I have a feeling that this CD player could be a bit of a giant killer...However, I need to wait for the relevant interconnects to arrive to be able to test that particular theory - I’ll update this review once I can test that.So I put the DM13 beside the bed in readiness for the various cables. And that’s when I remembered my Meze 99 Noirs now have a balanced cable...Oh. My. Goodness. Incredible! Hold the front page, this is a match made in heaven - a quantum leap in everything: staging, space, detail, drive, engagement... It’s ALL there. This might be one of the most synergistic combinations I’ve ever heard. Suddenly I’m wondering if those cables and interconnects and balanced DAC amp plans are pointless - this is great as is, and I can’t imagine anything making it sound better.I’ve been listening for hours now. Everything sounds good with this combination. It’s so beyond my expectations. I keep looking down at the tiny unit to convince myself that the sound is coming from that direct to these Meze headphones.All of which convinces me that this might also be the source of a great bedside headphone station for the 650s, 1060Cs and Sundaras as well, given some help amp-wise. This thing is capable.So please excuse the effusiveness of this - I rarely write reviews - but this thing has so exceeded my expectations that I felt I had to let you know: This is not a toy.

Un buen reproductor de CD, con un DAC más que competente y salidas que permiten conectarlo a un amplificador o un DAC externo. En mi caso es la solución para disfrutar de mi vieja colección de CDs en medio de una mudanza, hasta que pueda instalar el equipo hi-fi.Por lo demás el sonido es muy bueno, la construcción robusta y por poner algún punto negativo el menú para cambiar el modo de salida es poco intuitivo y tienes que revisar el manual para cambiar entre las diferentes opciones de salida.

Fijne cd speler!

Depois de ler algumas excelentes reviews, comprei este leitor de CDs e tenho-o usado diariamente. Quase substituí o streaming pela minha coleção de CDs. Já tinha esquecido o bom que é ouvir um álbum do início ao fim e sem anúncios nem ter de pagar mais por isso. No entanto, nem tudo é perfeito.Pontos positivos:- O design com a tampa transparente é lindíssimo. Adoro ver o CD a girar no interior enquanto toca. Para mim isto é um pormenor muito importante, ver algo a acontecer em vez de apenas ver o disco a desaparecer para dentro de uma caixa.- Sólido e com a construção exterior em metal. Muito bem montado. Não encontro nenhuma falha, todas as peças encaixam perfeitamente. Botões muito agradáveis ao toque.- Perfeito para usar numa secretária.- Bom ecrã.- Suporta gapless playback (isto nem devia ter de ser mencionado).- Conectividade (3.5mm, digital, bluetooth).- Mecanismo relativamente silencioso.- Testado com uns Senheiser HD598, é perfeitamente capaz de fornecer um bom nível sonoro. Para mim o ideal, dependendo do CD, é 30 ou 35 de 99.- Modo desktop em que carrega a bateria apenas se necessário e usa alimentação externa USB-C.- Autonomia perto das 10 horas anunciadas.- Mesmo não usando ESP, é muito difícil provocar falhas no som.- Finalmente, a qualidade de som parece-me excelente. Poderá ser por a versão em CD das músicas ser diferente das versões de streaming. Neste leitor, comparando com PC, Mac ou smartphone, o som parece mais definido e detalhado. Depois de umas horas a ouvir música em CD e a seguir passando para streaming, as mesmas músicas parecem abafadas ou com o som tão "misturado" que nem dá para distinguir os instrumentos.Pontos negativos:- Grande parte dos CDs toca perfeitamente. Outros nem por isso. Tendo em conta o preço e que um outro leitor de CDs com mais de 20 anos que tenho e que é literalmente feito de lata nunca teve estes problemas, parece-me inadmissível.- Alguns CDs não tocam à primeira e, quando tocam, o gapless playback deixa de funcionar. Neste caso, o CD gira mas não tem som. Resolve-se inserindo outro CD com um número diferente de faixas e voltando a inserir o que deu problema (!).- Às vezes o CD para sem razão aparente.- Às vezes ouvem-se cliques e pops mesmo em CDs novos, algo que irá agradar aos fans do vinil.- É preciso atualizar o firmware! Tive de atualizar porque às vezes um dos canais de audio deixava de funcionar.- Existem seis botões para todas as funções. Isto obriga a pressionar conjuntos de botões, pressionar rapidamente, lentamente, etc.- Não há botão de stop! O stop é carregar no power + function! É preciso ler o manual de instruções.- Às vezes salta os primeiros segundos de audio de um CD.- Indicador de bateria pouco fiável.Isto foi o que consegui encontrar até agora. A minha utilização é muito simples e não uso outras ligações para além da de 3.5mm.Continuo a achar que é um bom produto mas a experiência não está a ser tão boa como poderia ser nem ao nível do preço pedido. Muita coisa precisa de ser melhorada. A pontuação que dou é muito otimista tendo em conta que encontrei tudo isto com a minha pequena coleção de CDs. Mas é um leitor de CD com um som excelente e é muito agradável de utilizar. Adoro o design e o funcionamento. A marca tem lançado atualizações frequentes e pode ser que estes problemas sejam resolvidos. Por isso espero que continue aqui em cima da minha secretária por muitos e bons anos.

El producto vintage del año. Es estupendo ver el CD funcionando en la versión transparente. Pero sobre todo, el sonido es de primera y la mano de obra es magnífica. Si, como yo, tienes una colección de CD, volverá a la vida.
